YOu guys are killing me... i have 06 UC. Around local area, i live in rural area, i get 38-42. that's tops!! on interstate at 70-75, it's mid 30s mpg. above 75 it's crap (32 mpg at best!)
I think the question is Which you would you rather have if you had to pick. Not how many MPG your gettng!
I would pick mileage over stage one.
I think the point that most of the respondents are trying to make is that because we CAN have BOTH...that we would choose BOTH. They are making the point that they have sound and MPG. Why choose one over the other when you can easily have both?
I have: Jackpots, PCV, Stage 1 103", 80 HP/97 TQ AND 41-47 MPG
I picked up this all stock '07 Ultra with 5000 mi. on it bout a month ago. 37 mpg is the best mileage I have got out of it. And it got hot real fast. The other day I put a AN Big Sucker AC (Thanks Moe51) on it. Before the engine made so much noise I thought something was wrong with it. After AC replacement engine noise was a lot less and ran much smoother. Since then I have put Rush slip ons with 2 in. baffles(Thanks Carpetride).Have not had rode it since I put the Rushs on(got the front end off). But, have started it up. Runs even smoother now. Did I mention before it got hot REAL fast just at idle. Now it does not get as hot as fast. More cool air in. More hot air out. No Stage 1 download ,yet. That is next and last step(Ihope). If you think you got lousy mpg try owning A Valkyrie with 6 cylinders with 6 carbs and a itchy right wrist.
I have a 2008 EGS and it provides all the power I need in stock config. I don't think I've ever gone WOT, maybe half WOT and it gives me a high just with that. I have Rush slipons 1.5 in baffle with nothing done to fuel/air and it runs great and has great sound. I'd rather have the better mileage and not tinker with the bike. That being said I have thought of going with a Nightrider 02Xied to move the AFR to 14.2 but it's not a must have for me. I'd rather spend my next dollars on a Bagger Brace. I can't believe these guys above me are getting mid/upper 40's. Best I've ever gotten is 42.5 on an all expressway run in 6th at 65 mph. JMHO.
Any HD mechanic will tell you that you lose MPG when you up the power. Maybe these guys who claim to have the same or better know something nobody else does. Maybe living at higher altitudes helps a bit...not trying to start a fuss here...it just don't add up.
