I am not doing any more modifications to the performance beyone Stage 1. I wanted that sparkle back that I felt on my RoadKing and the Dyna before.

I just switched over to an improved mileage map from Jamie at Fuelmoto and took the bike out for a nice 60 mile cruise. Guess what?????? The mileage is back to where it was pre-Stage 1, plus the sound and performance and still there. Its the perfect combination. I will keep an eye on it for a few tankfulls, but the "good" MPGs seem to be back and I am one happy camper.

I would recommend the upgrade.

It takes a higher fuel/air ratio to make more power ( more fuel, more air ). But if you can honestly say you are now getting the same while still getting more power then I need to look at these new maps to see how they do it. I'm not a mechanic, but the guys that do this day in and day out say you lose a bit of MPG. No one has stated otherwise. Maybe you are not getting the same HP with this improved map, have you checked?

tmblweed,

My friend, I am no tuner, not even close, but I do not notice a perfomance difference between the first map and the improved MPG(mileage) map. All I am saying is after the Stage1 I did notice the drop in MPG, thus the call to Jamie. The new map places me back in the 40 range like I was before.

Did I lose 3-4 MPG between stock and stage 1....I would have no way to confirm or deny.....but I can tell you now, it is back up to the decent range.

I think that there are too many variables, gas, wind, weight, weather, ect for me to drive the 3-4 mileage up or down either way, I just wanted to be away from the 30 range.

The bike runs great.

Ride Safe o~`o

The difference is throttle position. Power setup 40% and up. Mileage setup below that. Also RPM based...3000 and below or so is mileage setup for me. So, Higher AFR's for me in 40% and 3000 RPM and below. Everything else is lower AFR's for power. That way I have both and at WOT I'm running the same AFR's you see on the dyno sheets with higher numbers. Yes I did put it on the dyno to check it. And I range around 41-47 MPG depending on the wind, etc. YOU CAN HAVE BOTH

Well, thanks for the education...when you go easy on the throttle you get better gas mileage. I would like to do a stage one setup so maybe I'll look into this. Thanks

I want an Ultra Classic mainly because I've always ridden fully dresses touring bikes. I'm about to go nuts not having a good sound system on my RKC and I'm not mounting any Hog-Tune what ever. I had an Ultra Classic for a short time until a friend talked me out of it. If I get another one he's SOL. I like my music but that not the only reason. I've been also use to having a CB radio for many years. The Ultra Classic is a far more comfortable long distance ride than any Goldwing I've had.

On my ultra around town the fuel economy dropped by about 20%, But I have found on the highway it is pretty darn close to what it used to be but for the difference of a buck or two in fuel used I would take the throttle response and sound any day.

I don't base what I drive or ride based on MPG. I do not base any modifications I make base on MPG either and I sure as hell do not ride a Harley becasue it gets better MPG than the next make. I am not enviromently friendly or "Green" in an definition of the word, so I say screw the MPG and have some fun. This is still America, for a little while longer anyways, so have fun while you still can.
