Default Inspect oil lines and brake system?

I'm currently doing my 1000mi maintenance a little bit each night. The second item on the list is Inspect Oil Lines and Brake System. Anyone know what that entails? There is no procedure in the service manual (that I can find). There is a seperate step in the maintenance checklist for checking brake fluid, so all I can figure is this step means I should inspect the brake cables. Not sure where any "oil lines" are. The confusing part is that is has Note 1 on it which means it's supposed to be done by a certified HD mech with proper training and tools. That tells me there is much more to it than looking over the break lines. Any ideas?

For the brake system I would check banjo bolt fittings to make sure they are tight and not leaking, then I would check your brake fluid level and how dirty it is. Replace fluid if needed. Not sure what can be done in your garage about checking the oil lines besides making sure they are not cracked or leaking? Maby somone else will know.

Check pads for wear, check brake fluid level, check brake lines and connections for leakage, Check calipers are secure, and lever/pedal operation ok.

No external oil tank - check oil filter area, drain plug area, oil cooler lines if cooler installed, cyc bases, etc.

"...currently doing my 1000mi maintenance a little bit each night..." What are you doing it in 10 min intervals? Should only take ya an hour or so to do all.

I'm not sure what oil lines are exposed for inspection. Can't think of any unless a cooler is installed, but if the bike isn't leaking oil anywhere I would consider that part of the service procedure done. Same for brakes, checking for any leaks front and rear. I would not tighten any of the bolts unless they are leaking, and if so not much. I would consider both of these an eyeball inspection only.

Thanks everyone. I didn't think there was much to it. Wonder why it has Note 1 on it?

I'm mostly limited by tools. I have to get torx sockets and crowsfoot wrenches tonight so I can do my primary. I'm sure I'll run into a tool I don't have tonight and end up hitting Sears again tomorrow so I can continue. Eventually I'll have everything and it'll be a one afternoon job.

Just screwing with ya...lol, take your time, learn the bike, get the right tools, you already have the manual, and enjoy your time together.
