i just bought a used 07 street glide it was owned by a lady
it now has 8000 miles on it and has developed a ticking noise
similar to a lifter noise but if they have self adjusting lifters
how would you fix that
My lifters made a lot of noise after a long run. after the run when the bike sat for about an hour, upon starting it sounded the engine was coming apart and would go away after about 1 min. Dealer checked the lifters and all, and Told Me the problem was the Oil pump alignment???????. Anyways that was last July, and the noise has not occurred since, I have a 08 Ultra.

Does it sound like one lifter or all? If all, it could be equipped with one of many aftermarket cams with steep acceleration ramps (e.g., Andrews). Do you know the bike's service history for maintenance and performance upgrades? What oil pressure does it run once warmed up at cruising speed?
the bike was purchased in feb it has v&h basic slip ons and a factory
breather so i put on a high flow breather and checked the codes on the fuelpack they are way different than the ones on the f/p web site for what i have on the bike i bought the bike from a local car lot so there is now way of knowing what else has or hasnt been done
ive always ridden ricers and could tel when something just wasnt right
and im sticking with my gut something is just not right
If you haven't ridden harleys before it is probably just the normal valve train noise they all make. The fairing on the FLHX also seems to amplify it, like a sound board.
i dont know the service history but the oil pressure is around 30 at 60mph
and about 10 at idle is that good or bad
Sounds about normal to me. I've had an '83, '01, '07. and now an '09 and they have all made some valve train noise. Perfectly normal as long as the sound doesn't start to sound more like a "tap" or "knock". Basically, get used to the sound and if it gets worse or drastically changes then get it checked.
One thing that helps is a good quality synthetic oil. At your next oil change (or sooner) get Redline, Amsoil, or any one of a few others (search for oil threads) and it will quiet it down some.
