Just out of curiosity has anyone ran their bike without the mufflers just the heads??? Not long term of course but to start it up or ride around the block?:
Huh just the heads? if it aint drag pipes your inviting valve damage but do what you have to do.. Plus it will run like s&*T .. its been proven a certain amount of back pressure helps the scavenging effect = more HP... .... Dont believe me ? post your copy of the repair bill after your done mucking around

Was just curious. People seem to have tried all kinds of stuff here. I wouldn't ride around like that. But I'm pretty sure more back pressure = less scavenging. It's the higher flowing exhaust and tuned exhaust pulses of 2n1 heads that help better with scavenging. But too much or too little scavenging can have performance effects in different areas dropping or raising TQ and HP. Valve timing is a big player in this too.

if your bike runs hot now wait till you ride it like that .
Well, yes I did it on jan 1st this year for the annual cold run. I just ran the vance and hines true dual headpipes with no mufflers. All my previous bikes I had ran drag pipes so I wanted to hear that sound again if only for a day. I remapped the power commander and went for a ride. I only drove about 15 miles but I can tell you that it is a bit obnoxious but does not sound as good as a regular drag pipe does. I don't know if it is the bends in the rear pipe, the headpipe construction or just the position and cut of the pipes but it really did not do it. The other thing that I noticed was that I really lost alot down low which is kinda what I was expecting but not as much as I did. All in all I can say it was fun for the day but I would never do it again. The reason why I bought this bike was for long distance riding and also the look of the dual exhaust coming out of the back, I think I am just going to build another rat chopper for fun bar hopping. IF you do decide to try it out though make sure you secure your headpipes with another mount and remap the fuel injection for the pipe change.
