One day ridin a poker run with my Hog Chapter we were at a stop and one of the guys said "ya ever notice it's always the same 10 people on these rides."
"I thought we had 500 members."

Then one of the others made a comment I'll never forget. He said "there's people that like to have a motorcycle, and there's people that like to ride their motorcycle."

Hey Skootchnc, I'm with ya. I'd rather ride than sit and stare.

You will get out of it what you put into it. In other words, join and contribute something, friendship, assistance with rides, photos of rides, whatever. Just get involved and it will pay back in spades. I joined my local HOG and am very happy with the group of people. HOG National sets all the rules but other then that it's allot of fun. We have close to 150 members of which approximately 1/3 of them are active, so that means of the 1/3 at any given time we get about 15-30 riders out and that works out nicely. No pressure, come when you want. Worth looking into if you are looking for group rides, but HOG does not allow for alcohol durung rides. Some Chapters bend that rule somewhat, others do not. The next Chapter over occasionally serves beer after a ride, something my Chapter would never do (they still gotta ride home right?). Out of our Chapter, we also hold informal rides too.

Remember, when you ride with a group or even your own Pards. that you have to be considerate of other peoples desires and wants too. If it turns out the majority want to bar hop and that's not for you, then you need to move on and find another group. But it's definitely a give and take situation required to make it work.

I ride alone or with the wife. I stopped waiting on people to show up, I stopped listening to all the " We gotta stop an have a beer" talk . I don't have all the time that some have to ride. I don't argue with anyone when it comes to riding I just fire up the bike and go. Part of why I'm Saw*Me

Enjoy the season and ride safe

Tom

I found that after 4 or 5 bikes it gets to be a hassle someone has to pee,I'm hungry, forgot to fil up. wants to stop at a bar or something constantly. I like to ride and not stop and shop in every little town we come too. Whicih has happened as well.

I don't have any buds locally that ride these days so, I joined HOG. "We" don't stop at bars nor tolerate drinking before or during rides. After, you are free to do what you please. "We" don't stop every 10 miles for a chat session. Maybe one stop on the way to our destination and one on the return trip. And that's usually for gas. Average ride is about 150 miles. Some shorter for folks who can't ride as long for whatever reason.

Cliques? Sure, I guess. Folks just feel better with some vs. others. No different in your normal day to day.

I chose to help the Chapter rather than complain about it. And, yes, I have riding buds on any given weekend and select week days during the riding season. Beats riding solo all the time.

If I want to ride I would rather go with a max of 4 or 5 or go by myself. If I want to be social I go with a larger group.

I have found that riding in groups is just too formal and usually has some sort of hierarchy to it. I would much rather just ride alone or with my wife and stop when we want, or just get lost on some backroad and find our way to some newly discovered place rather than follow the "herd".

I joined a Southern Cruisers Chapter and ride with them when I can. Great group of guys and gals and there is also no drinking while on a ride. We have weeknight and weekend rides.
