Does anyone know
I was going to get a RK classic but one draw back for me was the black case. It just does not look right to "my" eyes and those all black Dyna's just do not look right to me either. That said, I have a Standard and do something to it every week to make it "my" bike. Personally I like spoke wheels and have them. Changed the bag latches to the billet ones. Put a chrome strip under the windshield attachment screws. Changed the seat to low profile. Changing out to all Harley billet........... Just bought speakers from Hogtunes/PEZ (Now there is a great company.) Have an 8" smoked windshield for warm riding...........And on and on and on. To me, half the fun is making the bike yours. I wanted a sleek/classic bike with not much in the way of extra stuff I didn't want. The Standard is a great platform for doing that. You can take all the time in the world and still have a bike to ride.
Will be dropping the back end very soon.
Take good care,

[sm=exactly.gif] Don't forget, it was all of us "standard" riders customizing our bikes, that gave the moco the idea for your beloved streetglides.
It was all I could afford five years ago...and we almost didn't make it when I got laid off two months after taking delivery. For the guys who aren't into the looks, but just want a bike they can go anywhere with, it is the best bang for the buck.
Having said that, if I were to have a chance to do it all again today, I'd buy a streetglide. The cost of the radio, guages, and black/chrome engine more than offsets the price difference in the MSRP's.

See you fellas are talking my language now. I just came from the stealership and they have bumped the price of the EGC to 700 over MSRP. No way am I paying that. Plus I got my eyes on a set of V&H's dresser duals and the SERT. I figure I can get the detachable tour pak later. Plus I am going to be wearing a full face helmet this time around so I got a weird feeling I wont be able to hear the radio like I want to anyway. Since the stealership is trying to molest me on the EGC, I figure I will throw them a curve and buy the Standard EFI and spend another 2K in performance and sound...and roll it all into the warranty. That black engine takes some getting used to for me also. I had a 99 FXSTB and the blacked out engine got old after a while...
I guess in the big scheme of things I would rather have loud pipes and performance out of the gate than pay the extra for a radio and a black and chrome engine and tour pak.
Now I am really confused... Somebody help me...!!!!!
I like the idea of the whole "blank canvas" thing...
I am going to another dealer tomorrow (HD of Atlanta)

This picture is already out of date...I just added a Cee Bailey's super step contour windshield (13") in dark smoke...Like UGGA reviewed. Get my first ride with it today...Hope I like it as much as others I've heard from.
I too recently purchased a Standard. I really liked the Street Glide & thought would be the bike for me. But when I went to the local Dealer (Carlton H-D in Mantua, OH) I saw they had a used '03 Standard with 15,000 miles for $13,500. Nothing seem to done to the bike & it looked like Showroom new - very clean. I thought it was a good deal & actually got it for $13,000 ($13,885 out the door). For what it will cost to make it look like the Street Glide, I will be well ahead in the monetary value. Also, you can change the color, look of the motor when you upgrade to more cubic inches. My buddy just had his motor done by Johnson Engineering, went from 95" to 106", diamond cut the fins, black chromed the covers, looks and runs awesome. He was lifting the front end before, but you should see the faces of the Crotch Rocket riders now, when he rides wheelies through 3rd gear. I too will be adding this modifaction to my motor this winter. Still under the MSRP of the Street Glide. Since I purchased the bike form the dealer they give 15% everything I now purchase through them. I found that Kuryakyn has some nice stuff & cheaper than H-D - Rear turn signal light bar($120), 6" windshield ($55), plus 15% off. Can't beat it. Also, Biketronics has a radio package with the Hogtune speakers for $465, less than half of the H-D component.
