I am considering a new roadglide and keep hearing bad reports on the wind buffeting, noise, etc,. seems like everyone has tried different windshields but nothing solves the problem. the tall windshields on roadglides i think most will agree are ugly. I now have an ultra, but never ride 2 up and don't use the tour pack, so am considering the change to the roadglide, am I making a mistake? opinions
IMHO the fixed faring of the RG is the way to go for real long distance traveling. The Ultra comes with a lot of things standard that the RG doesn't which I'm sure you know since you already have the Ultra. I personally dont have an issue with buffeting on my RG. I've read a lot of good things about the Cee Baily shields for the RG. The RG is rock solid at highway speed. I have hit cross winds that didn't move the bike, but I could feel it pushing my head and body. The RG is an awesome bike. If HD offered it fully loaded like the Ultra, I think they would sell a ton of them.
Everyone with a Road Glide will tell you to get one, everyone with the Batwing will tell you to keep yours. Rent a RG and judge for yourself, that's my best advice.
Everyone has an opinion, that's the beauty of this message board.
What kind of riding are you going to do? Are you carrying a passenger? Do you need extra storgage space? Does the bike fit you?
If you had your heart set on the Ultra, buy it and enjoy. Likewise, get a road glide.
At least on the ultra you get alot of standard equipment that you would pay for if you get a RG (Tour pak, lowers, etc.). If you add it to the RG like I did it costs some bucks.
Ultra looks like its more passenger-friendly as well.
Personally, i own all batwing bikes. Thats said the Road Glides look awesome. I want one. The buffeting is there though and what some people are not mentioning is the absolute horrible wind protection for the passenger. We are talking waa-baa-baa waa-baa-baa in the back. SO says my wife anyway. She and I have ridden together all the stock 07,08, and 09 RGs including the CVOs and its always the same. Bad wind protection for the passenger, questionable for the rider -depending on what you can stand. I actually like the extra wind on me and the looks...awesome.
Out of curiousity we road a frends RG with lowers and a short Clearview windshield. That did it. I would put that bike up there with the Ultra.
So the point is, if you want an RG prepare to add a few things to make it tolerable. My .02 anyway. Great bike. I will own one soon maybe.
