Default Question re: Sundowner seat please.

As is typical I went to the HD yesterday to buy an air pump and gauge for my new

STREET GLIDE (that was just for 2006King

and ended up buying a Street Glide Sundowner seat. I got it home and went to put it on and realized I had to remove the brackets for the bags to get the stupid grab strap off of the stock seat. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but lining those back up and getting the bags back on, just to swap out a seat sucked. So I popped the Sundowner on and it has a large pleat across the nose of the seat, but uglier yet, is the gaping crevice designed for the rider backrest. On the stock seat, and other Sundowners I've seen for Road Kings etc., you can see the slot but it's pushed together very firmly so there isn't a gaping whole in the seat. I'm taking the seat back regardless due to the pleating across the body of the seat, and I refuse to put the grab strap back on for the reasons noted above as well as I don't like them on any seat. The question: do all Sundowners equiped for Street Glides have that gaping hole in the seat? I thought the seat felt VERY good with the seat on, (honestly just looked ok....adding bulk isn't my idea of the perfect mod for the SG, but I need something for 2-up and some trips, plus I got tired of my GF and daughter telling me the Fatboy was more comfortable), but the big gash in the seat ruins any kind of aesthetic that I might have otherwise overlooked. Is that normal for the SG seat? Like I said, haven't seen that on other Sundowners or seats equiped with rider backrest slots.

gliderxxx, all sundowner seats have the slot for riders backrests. I have a sundowner an a backrest cant beat the price. If you dont like the looks go with another brand like Mustang. Alot of people on this site love them, MHO.

Stile...I've had Corbin seats and rode on a Mustang at one point. Both good seats, I just was hoping to keep the SG pattern that matches the passenger backrest, thus the Sundowner. I recognize the slot for the rider backrest but was surprised that it was almost an inch wide vs being filled in and tight like the stock SG seat. If you were going to go with a rider backrest it's no big deal, but I don't plan to do that...thus the big gap.

Dump the Sundowner and go with the Mustang. It's not going to leave you hanging and it look great. They have a rider backrest that you can get that folds down to get on. It's the way to go for streetglides and roadkings.

Good luck.

I love my sundowner, but like you I don't like that gap. Wife is not sure she like the seat, she says it is not what she thought it would be. Awefully hard. I am looking at some other seating too.

Default RE: Question re: Sundowner seat please.

Just got back from exchanging my Sundowner. The one I had did have a much larger gap where the driver backrest fits. This one is much better and doesn't have any pleats in the seat I just went for a ride with it, and about 12 psi from 0. Nice ride. I'm not crazy about the look of the Sundowner, still a bit too bulky in a EG Standard sort of way, but it's not bad and it is comfy. So my next seat is the HD Stripper to go from one end to the other. I'll pop the Sundowner on for max comfort and mostly two up riding, and go with the stock or STripper for solo runs.

Thanks for the feedback!
