Default Need sparkplug removal tool.

I'm going to the local auto parts store to get something to remove my sparkplugs.

What size do I need?

Is there something that I need to know before removing/inspecting plugs?

You just need a standard 5/8 spark plug socket to pull the plugs.

All you need is a 5/8 deep well socket and ratchet. If your running HD plugs and your bike is running the way it should, they claim you only have to change them every 10k miles.

Depending on how many miles you have on them and if your bike is tuned properly they should be dry and clean with a slight burn on the electrode.

If you are running rich they will be wet and smell like gas, if they are fouled with oil it could be a valve guide seal problem which was an issue on the 05 models.

I hope this helps out!!!

Big thank you.

If I decide to change them....What is the absolute best plug I should buy?

Any experiences with gap settings?

WHat gap should I use?

I think the gap settings are in the manual or the dealer will give you the settings. I can't recommend a plug other than stock since I've never had any problems. One thing you need to be careful about, however, is making sure you don't cross-thread or overtighten the plugs. Screw the plugs in with your fingers so you can feel the thread catch and start cleanly before you put a socket on it. PReferebly torque the plugs to spec if you have a torque wrench. If not, just snug them down after they begin to tighten up. They don't have to be super tight. A big ratchet is a dangerous thing around the delicacies of a motorcycle.

5/8th was not my size nor 3/4 - I am still not sure but I gently use an 11/16 open end (Pretty sure - will confirm tonight) - it works - I have an 05 EG Classic and use HD Triple Platimium plugs - Want to the try the stock plugs to compare but mine came with the Triple Plats - I can confirm the gap is 0.038-0.043 inches

If you talk to just about any HD Wrench and they will tell you that the stock plugs are all you need even if you have performance mods. I tried the HD Screaming Eagle Split Fire plug and saw no difference at all.

I had a valve guide issue and they needed to be replaced under warranty and I did the Big Bore kit at that time and they told me to only use the stock plugs which in my case are the HD-6R12 on my Road Glide.

I guess I figure why spend the extra money for different plugs if the stock ones accomplish the same thing for less.

Run the HD Gold plugs, next step up from stock and priced reasonably.

Thundercloud, what symptons did you have with the valve guides? I think I have a similar problem on my 05 Ultra. Burned 1/2 qt oil in 900 mile.
