ON my 09 ultra I start it up the oil pressure goes up to like 30 and stays there until it is warmed up and, then if i stop at a red light or somewhere the pressure goes down to zero and i can smell burning oil smell is this a normal thing or is there a problem??? oil light never comes on or any thing but am just curios..

I don't know if it's a problem but does the same thing. Oil pressure drops to "near" zero I would say about 2 and I defiantly smell that burring oil smell. I have 610 miles on mine will see what happens after 1000 mile service. I have all ready ordered a case of Amsoil for both bike, hope that help, guess we will see.
I would advise you to get that bad boy checked out straightaway. Mine goes to 35 psi at start up but never gets to zero no matter how warm it is. I think you may be okay as a result of not getting the low pressure light, so perhaps your gauge is not reading correctly. Get it checked any way.

The Amsoil should help bump up the pressure a little, and it should also lower the temp about 20 degrees too. That is what it did for me after I switched.

I have an 08 Ultra and everytime I come to a stop the oil psi drops to 5-10 psi but as soon as I accelerate psi rises to normal levels on the gauge. I have close to 6K miles and run Amsoil - I also smell the burning oil on occasion. I hope its normal... I haven't had any problems as of yet.... (knocking on wood!) Looking forward to hearing from others...

I am at about 500 miles and am also going to change to amsoil or maybe the royal purple oil I am hoping its just a brake in thing with the smell of burning oil. but also the bike gets extremely hot and its not even hot outside its like only 45 degrees here. this is my first harley so i am just getting used to the whole air cooled engine but i think i am getting oil cooler too.
It is typical for the pressure to drop to near zero at idle. The gauge isn't all that accurate either. I am sure it is not zero, but a few PSI. Mine has 45,000 miles of doing that with no ill effects.
The smell might just be new components getting hot.
I have an 08 SG and the pressure drops a little when at idle, but that is because the oil pump is not pumping as fast, it's tied to the RPM. But, I have never ever smelled anything funny. Perhaps the greasy paws prints of the mechanics who assembled the bike haven't burned off yet, or there is a tiny leak or residual oil around the exhuast.
I have an 09 ultra and I have 35lbs at start up and when It warms up it goes to 10 or 15 lbs but never 0 or even close! I have 700 miles on it now! Will have to monitor this tho!
For you non mechanics,it is normal. The reason is Harley motors are all roller bearings,it is amazing they make any oil pressure at all.It is the quantity of oil you can't see that does the work.
