Looking at getting rid of the pillow putting a diff seat on my FLHT and noticed there are lots of roadking seats pretty cheap on e-bay. What comments are out there as to comfort with a stock roadking seat on a FLHT. Was also looking at roadglide seats but not as many around.
I have a sundowner on my roadking and I like it. I read a lot of posts on here about the stock seat. Why I went with the sundowner, Like I said I like it, my wife thou is not sure she likes it. Says it is hard. I am thinking about getting her a gel pad or even considering a skin/hide. Buddy has the hide/skin and likes it a whole lot. Maybe I should ask to borrow for her and see what she thinks.
Putting a Road King seat on a FLHT will also require either a longer tank console like part # 71288-03A or the black leather cover part # 52447-96 to fill in the gap since the road king seats arent as long in the front as the flht or the road glide seats are. Of course i guess you can leave the gap if you wanted to. I have the Road Glide seat on my EG Classicand really like it.
I purchased the HD Road King Solo, matching passenger pillion, and strap on ebay for $100; they were new (a dealer take-off) and I probably overpaid by $20. But I have really enjoyed the seat on my FLHTPI.
Also, I initially purchased the FLHT trim piece and it was fine since it covered the tank gap between the tongue of the RK seat and the standard EG FLHT fuel tank console; but I subsequently purchased and installed the longer tank console, 71288-03A, page 479 of the 2006 HD P and A catalog, and it really makes the tank look great, IMHO. Check out the FLHX Street Glide tank console--it's the same thing with a different insert. Well worh the $160 (from an internet HD vendor offering 20-25% off), again, IMHO.
Go with the Road Glide stock seat. You can find one on ebay for around $150. It's much sportier than the stock eglide seat and very comfortable for both you and your passenger. You also will not have to purchase the console/tank trim piece as you would for a RK seat.
After doing 2040 miles in 8 days (Tampa to North Carolina to Nashville and back to Tampa) last summer, I upgraded to the stock one piece seat that comes on Electra Glides. My wife and my butt like the new seat better. The stock seat is O.K. for around town but uncomfortable for long trips.
