i would recomend a set of pegs that has a lip on the end helps keep boots from slipping off the outside edge.

So much depends on individual preference. And there are so many options out there.

I have the HD slotted chrome & rubber pegs mounted on standard P clamps. They are mounted so I can BARELY put my heel on the boards and toe on the pegs. I didn't do this on purpose, it's where I'm comfortable. I never thought to use them that way until I read it here. I wouldn't put them any lower though as I have folded them in a time or 2 in the twisties. It is nice having a 3rd position on LONG rides.

To all,

Thanks for all the replies. Your advice helps me although I still have alot of researching to do before I take the plunge. I am interested in the remarks about putting your heel on the floorboards and toes on the pegs. I haven't checked, but is the rear brake lever uncomfortable on your right calf or is your foot and leg a bit forward of it?

Thanks,
Mike

I went with HD360s and streamliner pegs. I have them set low and they seem perfect for me at 6' even.

I have to update my pic to reflect my mods

+1 I like to position mine so that my heel is resting on the floorboard and my forefoot is supported by the pegs, works out nicely.

nope, not forward, to the side. if you look at the attached pic, you can just barely see the brake pedal above the saddlebag. but the highway peg is out to the side very plainly.

another thing to consider if you want to go this route, get the soos floorboard extender kit. that will move your floorboard out closer to the highway peg so your foot isn't as angled. plus, it's just a damn sight more comfortable.

I bought the HD rubber and chrome ones. I almost sh*t when they told me how much, but i bought them anyway. I didn't bother to ask how much the clamps were, I was afraid to ask, so I made my own in the shop. I have yet to figure out the best position, but these guys here have opened my eyes. I'm going to try the heel on the floorboard . The pegs are rotated from the end, and right now mounted to the crash bars, but they are a little too far forward. Good luck

I have "nice" (HD - I think they were around $75 or so) mounts, along with the cheapest, plainest, rubber-coated HD pegs I've ever seen. Parts guy just handed them to me. Probably take-offs from the rear pegs on a Sporty or something. But they work very well.

Also a heel-toe-er.

If you go with the 360 adjustable mounts and mount them low on the crash bars, make sure after their mounted you can still get your feet easily between the pegs and the shifter/brake.

I had mine mounted to low and played hell shifting up. On the brake side I was pushing on the peg, thinking it was the brake. I should mention I have the 1" out board extenders.

I moved the mounts up now and now I have plenty of room to shift and brake and the pegs are still comfortable.

I went through the same thing and paid the extra $$$ for the HD 360 mounting kit. You can't go wrong here. You can positing it on either side of the crash bar (closer to the front wheel or closer towards you) and then rotate it 360 degrees until you find the sweet spot.
