Default Highway Pegs

I know it is personal preference, but here goes:

I have an '09 FLHTC. I have no experience with highway pegs but would like some on long rides to stretch my legs out a bit (6' 1"). Do you have any input regarding brackets, peg type, etc. There are so many choices and I am stumped. HD has brackets from 29.99 to 129.99! And footpegs in the same price range.

I am most interested in thoughts about round pegs or flat topped ones with rubber inserts, hopefully to prevent foot slippage. It seems if I were to buy flat topped pegs and they were fairly high my foot would not be resting on the flat portion as the top angle of the peg is not adjustable, just on the edge creating pressure points and such.

So what are you guys druthers for brackets and pegs? Any input appreciated!

Mike

The HD flat top pegs rotate so you can rest your foot flat, no matter what the angle.

I like to position mine so that my heel is resting on the floorboard and my forefoot is supported by the pegs, works out nicely.

Let ebay be your friend, That where I got mine. I have the most exspensive ones that Harley sells, and got them for 40 bucks on ebay. I also got a pair of the ISO wings for 20 bucks of ebay. Not bad for a couple hundred buck worth of stuff for 60.

My good friend just purchased the adjustable type. We tried to adjust them to his liking, but after 25 minutes, we tried to mount them at the best spot possible to allow him to use them as a toe rest with his heel on the floor board, a rest to "lock in" his heel of his boot and to rest the back of his leg and let his feet hang over the pegs. (stretched out)......

I will save you the drama. He took them back. He didnt want the cheap 30 dollar set(I have them and they are fine)so he opted for the Billet style fixed position. (80 bucks)

I had that type on my Roadking and loved them.

From my perspective the key is to have as many different riding position options available to you to "freshen" up your legs and back. I have just put mine back on love them. If they are in the right spot, you will feel secure with them and use them often. I think that some of the adjustable types dont place the pegs in a good location for your feet. It all depends on the size of the rider's legs.....IMHO

Good Luck...

I recommend the HD 360deg mounts. They are very flexible in locating the pegs where you want them. I had another set of mounts on my bike when I bought it and I could never get them adjusted where they were comfortable. With the 360s I had the pegs adjusted just right in about 15 min. I keep mine low so my legs stretch out when on the pegs. I can also keep my heels on the floorboards and put my toes up on the pegs.

+1 on rotating the pegs. Most of the pegs I've seen have end bolts that allow the pegs to be rotated.

+1. Just mounted mine last Sat. and this location offers me 3 riding positions 1-Floorboards 2- heel(floorboard) toes(footpeg) 3- All footpeg. If I shuffle my feet than it makes 9 riding positions.

Some people don't realize that there is a bolt in the end of the peg that allow the peg to rotate once you unloosen the bolt.

I bought the adjustable 360 mounting kit and set it up kinda low. The mounting kit also helps the fit around the lowers. You'll be glad you have them on the longer rides.

I got the HD long angled adjustable ones and they work great. Heel on flooboard, feet on pegs, very comfortable plus I can put my heels on the pegs and stretch out even more. I'm going to add the floorboard extensions and I think I will have it perfect.
