I dont have an Ultra (Standard), but if you are not using the tourpak, and like the look and convienance of taking it off, then go for it. I have the docking kit, and never take the damn thing off. I just took it off for the first time the other day to clean the bike, I doubt I will ever do that again.
There are also tons of threads with different opinions that may be helpful.
STD, thanks for the response, that's kinda what I was thinking. Spend the money and never take it off? It is a little expensive to do that and I can use that money for other items!
I was forced to buy the removable tourpack rack. I wanted a fixed rack for it but MOCO does not offer a fixed rack for the 09 Road Glides. I could have used the Ultra fixed rack, but that comes with a welded in place license plate bracket on it.
Cone - I just did it this week. I have been wrenching all my life and it was almost easier to take everything off when I want it off, and put it back on when I want it on. The "instructions" for the docking hardware might have been easier if they were written in Chinese. Once I got the tourpak on the docking hardware, the fit was so good I had trouble getting it off. Just my $.02

I don't have the ultra, Iv got an 08 Electra Glide Classic had the stealer install detachable tour pak, had it on and off a few times easy to remove and install by yourself once ya get the hang of. Ive taken it off during the summer got a wall mount in the garage for the tour pak and it hasn't been back on the bike I like it better without the extra weight Ill put it on when I go on a road trip for now it stays in the garage on the wall and I have a det sissy bar on the bike, my 2 cents Rida Safe BV
I got the detachable kit included when I bought my Ultra. I installed it myself. Took a couple of hours. I really like it, but I haven't had the tour pack back on since I took it off. I'll only use it for long trips, so the kit was well worth it to me.
