When I bought my bike in Daytona HD, They told me to get Lojack. I said no it was useless. They said no....Its much better, this "early warning" will let you know if the bike moves 3 feet. They said keep the FOB on your key ring because even if you back out of the garage you could set it off. THEY LIED !!!!! After trying to set it off to test it, I called LoJack. LoJack informed me that the bike has to be moving for 15 to 30 mins before Lojack knows and I will be notified up to one hour after that. Moving means MOVING, not stopping than restart, But just the bike has to move, running doesn't matter, which means in a truck or trailer....moving for 1/2 hour will set off the "early warning"
This means if someone steels my bike and runs down the highway I will know about it in most likely 2 hours. But if they steal it and go cross town, I will never know until I go looking for it.
Not bad for a grand.....LOL Before you say it....I am not even bothering to go back to Daytona HD to bitch...we all know it's not going to do any good.
Just like all the commercials on TV lately where a burgler kicks in a door on an unsuspecting housewife or kids and as soon as he barges through the door (setting off the alarm) the phone rings and it's the security Company saying that "help is on the way" etc etc. Bullship.... Good for Commercials, bad for real life practice. It don't happen nearly that fast and sometimes the call don't come at all. So much for truth in advertising. Just like the photograph of a whopper with actual fresh green lettuce on it, nice in photos but rarely found on your sandwich.....
I have it on my Road King and while working on my VHF radio in the boat I got a call from LoJack saying that my bike might have been moved without me knowing it. I was looking at the bike and it wasn't moving. I don't have much confidence in the product.

I don't know... I moved my bike about 2 feet one day without the fob while installing footpegs on mine, I got a call about 5 mins later. I was told it depends on what part of the country you live in as to how fast they receive the signal. Only complaint from me about the product itself is twice in last 6 months its called even though I had the fob with me. And the fact you only get 1 fob, whereas the car version you get 2, and I think they cost the same. Even the Harley security comes with 2, and if those tightwads can do it, Lojack should be able to!
Now as for the salesman, he kept pushing about how you get a big insurance break for having it. My ins agent said UMMM NO!
LoJack doesn't list any distance or time in their advertisment. Seems to me I'd rather get a call from them while I'm farting with the bike rather than while some else is. That would give me more confidence in the system then always wondering if it would work when needed.
From the LoJack web site:
The LoJack Early Warning Recovery System provides an added layer of protection for your motorcycle. The LoJack Early Warning Recovery System notifies you directly if your bike is moved without your authorization. LoJack will alert you by phone, e-mail and/or pager so you can quickly check on the status of your motorcycle. If a theft has occurred, the LoJack Early Warning Recovery System enables the police to track and recover your bike even sooner.
Get alerts at work, at home or on the road
Choose up to five methods of contact, including phone, e-mail and text message
Since two thirds of motorcycle thefts occur between the hours of 11PM and 6AM it is critical that you are able to be notified immediately. Make sure to provide a number where you can be reached 24 hours a day. The quicker you are notified, the quicker LoJack can begin tracking your bike. When it comes to your bike, every minute counts.
Not to mention Low Jack is pretty much useless if you do not live in a major city. Low Jack is dependent on your local police to have their equipment too. They don't tell you that either.
Update...I call Lojack and got a "supervisor"...well I guess that means he get 50 cents an more, anyway he asured me the system was good and that lojack is making improvements all the time. I am a Detective and knows the down falls of the system, but took it because of the early warning. OK Update went for a ride at 1620 hrs without the FOB, while riding at 1645 and again at 1708 I was called, so 25 mins after the bike was "taken" I was notified....not too bad, I guess, still a lot can happen in a half hour. Thanks for listening to me bitch, Be Safe JIM
