If you EVER drove past a rider................. push on, OK?
I NEVER pass a stranded rider...ever. Don't care what bike they ride. Being stranded is no fun and no one deserves it. I also don't hesitate to let other guys ride one of my bikes, either. Life is just too short not to share the wealth, so-to-speak. We're all brothers under the skin, even if some of us have sensitive hearing.

That's a trip. What's even funnier is my full mailbox, replete with messages of agreement with my position on some pipes being too loud. I think they don't join in here, publicly, because fellas like you would flame them with testosterone, too. I've got brass *****, so I couldn't care less about the stupidity of some of the comments, not the least of which is yours.

Hey, in the end, it doesn't matter what I think. My dealer gave me a brand new set of H-D pipes that someone else swapped so they're life would be spared on the highway with some noisy cans. It also doesn't matter what you think because they're gonna legislate your cans out of existence, and I'm not even going to support that legislation, so don't blame me. You're going to do it to yourself, friend.

Look, I spend 30 to 40 hours a week on a bike. I simply cannot deal with the racket of the loud pipes, the pain or the damage it does to my hearing. I already have tinnitus (sp?) and don't need worse, so thanks for your comments and wisdom, Mr. Smartass. Still, if I ever see you stranded on the road, you can count on me to stop and give you a ride, a tool or a helping hand.

Curt

Well this has been very insightful reading both sides of the issue. In the end I still am looking forward to my Hooker Troublemakers that should be arriving soon. I will say that I probably won't be firing my bike up to ride to work at 8 am on saturday mornings anymore (at least not living where I do now) but hey the traffic sucks anyway. After work I look forward to showing off my new pipes. Again this has been a good insightful read though

To each his own. I like loud pipes on a Harley. When I was younger, every vehicle I owned had headers and ... um ... increased performance capabilities.

I've worked in the oil field and the chemical industry for over 30 years, around some LOUD processes, and the first 10 or so years, earplugs were "optional". To sum it up, I like race cars, guns, and LOUD Harleys! So when you talk to me, look at me! If you don't, I can't "SEE" what you're saying!!!

Oh, and +1 on the animals. Deer, hogs, javelina, etc, tend to run the other way!

Ride safe!
Well, when I shoot a .22, earplugs are optional, but when I shoot something like a Holland & Holland .465, I absolutely will wear earplugs (and a shoulder pad too cause I'm a weany ).

15 pages You gotta be kidding me! Right! You guys are trying to pull a fast one on me!

Like I'm gonna fall for a thread that is supposedly written by some "Poser" braggart who's some monstrously educated MIT Doctor of BS or something or other who shoots Holland and Opus big bore fancy-schmancy guns that probably cost lot's of money and brags and throws around how he owns and hob-snobs around New England with the rest of the Ponobscots on Upper-crust late-model finely tailored corinthian leather upholstered BMW's!

Please people, like I'm gonna fall for this 15 page April Fools hoax!

Like some schmoe is gonna come on here and act like he farts roses and evergreen scents and just wants to be a dick and insult everyones intelligence. Like you expect me to believe someone who purports to know everything is gonna come and lay down a thread pretending that he is the only innocent man on the face of the earth and has never ever thought of another woman naked except his wife (or partner if that's the case) but pretends to think of folks with god forbid pipes that he doesn't agree with are stupid!

You guys are so funny, who put you up to this elborate joke

You, you, you jokers you

I agree... I don't care for the noise either. This newest bike is all stock and will stay that way. I enjoy the soft rumble of the motor as is and now-a-days with the crackdown on aftermarket exhaust, etc I have no worries about getting a ticket and having to go through all the trouble of returning it to stock to get the ticket signed off. This bike runs great, gives me 42 mpg cruising at 75 mph and it's very comfortable. That's all I need or want in a touring bike.

Wow, the arrogance.

I'm respectful of other people, but if I'm doing what I think is right, I really don't care what other people think, or if I offend them. Matter of fact, if you're not offending *SOMEONE* then you probably aren't DOING ANYTHING, or at least not anything right.

Our society is too caught up w/ this political correct BS and has way too many wacko extremist fabricating information to manipulate public opinion and politicians into coming up w/ and going along w/ more BS laws and policies than I ever thought possible.

Man, America was built on FREEDOM and there's a big difference between annoying people and hurting people. You know, that freedom allows you to your opinion, even if it makes you a jack@ss, and allows me to my opinion, even if that makes me a jack@ss, but if you think for a minute that you aren't offending anyone, you sir are sadly mistaken.

And I'm not talking about offending anyone here, the mere fact you own any personal property, let alone a handful of motorcycles, is offensive to many. The fact you work for a living and feel entitled to keep ANY of your earnings is offensive to many. The fact you live in America is offensive to many. There are people out there, in our own country that would like to see us all dead, and there are many more that would like to take one or more of your personal freedoms away, including your motorcycles.

If I were you, I'd be a little slower to pass judgment on others who like and appreciate something you don't like, especially as it relates to motorcycles, because w/ or w/out loud pipes, they'll be coming after your bike soon enough, if all of us don't stand up to stop them.

Don't believe me? There will always be some group, maybe even one you're currently a part of, that will find ways to gradually limit, if not remove, your right to own and/or operate those bikes, even those BMWs, whether it's for your own safety, the safety of others, the gas you use, the speed they're capable of, the color of them, the color of you, the smell they make, the materials they're made of, just name a reason, someone out there hates you too, not me, but someone.

For every finger you point, there's at least three pointing back at you, unless you were the victim of a tragic machine shop accident, in which case, my condolences.
I offended my next door neighbor just by buying a Harley. He never said a word about the Kawasaki I had in the garage before. I was accused of drinking the kool-aid and therefore lowering my standards and my IQ. For the record I still have stock pipes, but every one percieves I have a louder bike now. My 9 year old granddaughter would always put her hands over her ears when I cranked the Kawa but now she loves the Harley and can't wait to ride every chance she gets.

Well, isn't this whole conversation simply wonderfully delightful? Hey miller, no way anyone is a product of a tough Queens neighborhood and ends up a bmw riding tree huggin whiner about what other people do. By the way, I survived my south Bronx up-bringing and made it out alive and in one piece and guess what? My bike makes a helluva lot of racket with them irresponsible open pipe fishtails. Anywho, no disrespect intended. This has been very entertaining, I must say!
