Default Warranty

My current warranty expires next month and I recieved a card from HD offering a extened service plan. It is the one where you pay 50$ deductible. What is everyones opinion on this type of extended warranty.

Opinions will vary on this issue. Curious about how much $ for what length of time.

My Ultra is less than a month old and I asked Monday at the dealer about the extended warranty for 5 years. They wanted $1800. I said thanks but no thanks.

That sounds about right with the tire coverage included for the 2+5 year. I had it on my Night Train and never needed it, but did get some back when I cancelled it on the trade.

I'm in the same boat about getting it on this one. If I didn't have the radio, ABS, and all the other stuff, I would say no. But all that stuff would start getting expensive to service further down the road if there is a problem. Maybe I should have bought a sportster. lol.

I bought it when I had my 04 UC & again when I bought my 09 UC. I feel better safe than sorry. Again, you will get a lot of opinions on this one. Good luck.

rarely worth the money. my 01 had 69K on it when i traded for my 09. only item that would have been covered by failure was the vehicle speed sensor $56.

Much like life insurance, you are really buying peace of mind. If you fear a long trip because a catastrophic failure would leave you physically and financially stranded, then it's worth the $$$.

If you have enough cash around to address any repairs that pop up, then you don't really need the insurance (warranty).

My finances have changed over the years. When I bought my bike in '05, I still suffered from the memory of the AMF days, and ended up purchasing an extended warranty right before my 2 year warranty expired. If and when I purchase a new bike, I probably won't get the extended. A used bike though (from a dealer), I might consider negotiationg the price of an extended warranty.

Really, it's an individual choice having more to do with peace of mind than anything else.

On a rarley ridden softail I would not. On my 08 Street Glide which already has 15,000 miles and all the electronics, H/K radio, ect.. and considering how many times I have had warranty work done already including two tows back to dealer, hell yes I would. I don't have bundles of diposable cash laying around so I need the peice of mind.

When I picked up my 09 Ultra I took the 7yr plan (reg HD 2yr + 5yr with tire and wheel).
I figured it was rolled into the loan so the cost would be spread out.

And any kind of insurance is "In case **** happens".
If it happens and you have it you feel okay, but if you don't you feel like crap.

I figured I would get a nail in my tire every time it got close to the minimum tread depth, then I get a new tire at no cost. This should pay for itself in 7 years...

3 Words...PEACE OF MIND! You never know what lurks around the corner while riding or in the normal course of your motorcycles lifespan! And if you trade it in...you do get a credit back. It's all up to you...but with a 50 dollar deductible and the knowledge that something severe can happen...it can make your day. I'd check to see if there's an aftermartet plan out there with the same or better coverage for cheaper!

Ride Safe and Choose Wisely! Mike
