Thanks for all the replies. I have only used 91 since I bought bike last year, for most of the reasons that have been posted here, but a friend of mine has been using 87 since he bought his. He claims he hasn't had any problems. I believe time will tell.

He probably won't have anything happen unless it starts to ping at high temps because the timing can't be retarded anymore. But why would he want to spend 20+ grand on a bike and not use it's full potential??

i put in 87 this past weekend by accident and it pinged like hell wont do that again

i've seen a long term eval where the valve were "sharply" worn around the area mating with the valve seat. that occured at a 90,000 mile tear down inspection according to the article. the bike was run on "regular" when high test was recommended.

My last bike would ping even on 89 so didn't bother trying 87

OK, grammar police, explain why the double negative "never not" does not mean the same as "always" in the sentence "I've never not been able to get 91 or higher though."
