Default Compatible Radios...

Where can I find a big selection of radios that are compatible with my '06 FLHX? I've been to Biketronics, but I know there has to be more radios/brands out there.

Also, do you have any suggestions? I'm looking for something with atleast some of the bells and whistles and that work with the handlebar controls. I'd like to have XM built in, maybe something that I could download MP3s into, something rated at a higher wattage output than the stock HK so I could get more out of my speakers without adding an amp, and definately a functional CD player (no to little skipping)

Do radios with bluetooth have a mic so you can actually use it to answer your phone handsfree while on the bike? Does it work (can you hear them/can they hear you?) Should I even bother wanting this feature on a bike?

Thanks in advance

Default radios

My buddy back home is a car audio installer. He says they sell a part that will allow all radios to use the handle bar controls. If this is true, then you should be able to find something that fits your needs. I would try a specialty car audio shop. Stay away from the Best Buys, they don't have the knowledge that the custom shops. Hope this helps.

I guess I'm looking for a selection of radios that are a little more geared towards motorcycles that are weather resistent like our stock ones, or atleast somewhat. I don't want to buy an aftermarket radio and be concerned about getting caught in the rain or taping it up when I wash the bike.

You can use any single din radio that is compatible with a remote control. Biketronics will sell you the "install kit" without the radio. then wire up a module for the bar controls and you should be good to go.

the pac module can be a pain to install if you are not into that stuff,, anyhow, hawg wired makes a universal plug and play deal for most radios, and a specific one for sony as well... i personally have the pac, on my bike, but wires dont bother me a bit, wish i wouldve wnt with the hawg though... seems simple enough, plug it in and switch a few bottons...

If your really concerned about water and vibration google for marine radios or check some boating forums. Of course anything that says it's for a boat will cost as much or more than radios specifically for bikes.

Default Radio Upgrade

I purchased the Biketronics set up. All plug and play. However the radio is any off the shelf type. They include in their kit a waterproofing material. It is a heavy 3M plastic with stick-um on one side. Instructions are to place the plastic film, sticky side down, over the top and sides to make it waterproof. I guess it works. I did'nt care for the radio I ordered and went to Best Buy and bought a Marine grade radio. Only difference is waterproof material already installed, plus innards protected. BikeTronics sells a quality product. Customer service is top notch. Clear easy to follow instructions. Good luck in your decision.
