Help! I have searched and have not found the answer yet except for an 07 bike. I have an 08 street glide, have the forkes removed from bike, have the 6mm screw removed and the fork seal clip removed. The thread on the 07 says to just violently pull them apart? When I slide the tube out towards the oil seal it makes a metal clunk sound and stops. I do not want to slide that tube against the fork seal forcefully untill I find out that 08 forks are the same. Does the fork tube seperate from the lower this way or do also have to remove the fork cap plug from the top of the tube?
Use the lowers as a slide hammer and they will come off. It takes a few good slams to unseat the oil seal and it should come right off. The oil seal is what is holding the lowers on after the clips are removed.
I have done them off the bike and it should come apart just fine. You do not hsave to remove the fork tube caps at all unless you are changing springs.
