Well thanks for the tips, it worked great and the tubes came right out of the fork tubes except for some strange reason after they came out I felt like having a cigarette! I don't have to send my bike any flowers in the morning do I? I hope my bike doesn't think I won't repect her in the morning.
I am surprised how easy the chrome fork slider upgrade really is. But than after the handlebar and switch cover change, everything will seem easy!
man did this thread ever take the wrong turn.
I will be doing my 09 shortly. how much oil did you add? I know the book tells one ammount but considering the residual did you put less?

Haven't added oil yet but I will do whats recommeded in the manual. After seperating the tubes and using new lowers I don't see how there could be much oil still in dampers of any amount that matters. Unless theres something I dont know about yet.
Get a manual and follow directions for adding fork oil. When you take the lowers off make sure to have a pan ready for the fluid. Once it's all drained out and the new lowers put on, the manual should give you an amount to add. For my 08 I added 10.8 oz. Use a measuring device and don't overfill. If you overfill you have to drain it again unless you have the fancy HD fork oil tool which you can't buy at the dealer.
