Enough already. This has got to be one of the mellowist expressions used in this day and age. Do kids watch TV? Do they go online? Have you been to a playground lately? I have heard alot worse coming out of kids mouths at the local convenience store than this. Hell, I have heard a ton of worse expressions and words on regular tv also that would be a hell of alot more offensive. Times have changed, in this day and age that is far from being offensive or over the top. Right or wrong it doesn't matter, it is just a fact. You guys are attacking him like he is shoving it down childrens throats. Have you been to a bike show or bar/club lately? You see and hear a hell of alot worse than that. Just because your children hear or see it does not mean that it will offend them or make them repeat it. My daughter, now 16, was brought up around alot worse than that doing swap meets and parties with me all of her life and has never spoken a profane word yet. What your children do and how your children react all stems from how YOU raise them. If you discipline your children properly and teach them right from wrong at an early age then these things will not affect them. I have even heard my daughter correct other children who have said much worse than that saying.
Sorry for the long winded response but this is getting out of hand. That linkage should not be offending anyone nowadays. Just look at most of the myspace blogs from children and I think that would be a hell of alot more offensive.
Mellowist of expressions? As I recall his shift linkage says F%*K YOU and in big bold letters. Maybe that's mellow in your world but in mine it's as "in your face" as it gets. If I ever said it directly to you it would mean you're about to get your a$$ kicked. That, my bikin' brutha, just ain't mellow.
I don't really care WHAT he puts on his bike - it's his to do with what he pleases but there's no way anyone can call it "mellow". It was meant to offend and it does.
There's nothing wrong with changing your mind after a serious discussion. Intelligent people look at all sides of an issue and make educated decisions. If you posted on here, then said "F*%K you guys, I don't care what any of you say", you would clearly identify yourself as a self absorbed moron.
Since you are possibly being swayed, I suggest a linkage that simply says "VETERAN".
Thanks for your service.
In my mind, VETERAN is the most respect generating word a person could put on their linkage. As a fellow veteran, you would have my instant friendship if I saw that on your bike. As for the other words, you would have my instant disdain. But, it's your bike, your right, and your life; I'm not your judge.

Seriously??? What's the big deal? Kids see and hear worse on TV, so if that's what you're worried about it's too late because they've already seen and heard it. If you don't approve then man up, be a parent, and explain it to your kids. It's 2010, not 1950 and your kids are going to be exposed to stuff like this.
Something like this isn't a big deal until you make it a big deal.
I have "FTW" on my bike, I have a "FTW" tattoo, and they damn-sure don't mean "For the win". I have the word 'f**k' on my helmet in a couple stickers as well as d*ck, ****, assh*le, and other choice words. If you don't like it, then tough ****.
I also spent years in the service of my country including 3 tours in Iraq. I dare some self-riteous, pompous, toolbag to come tell me that my helmet (or in this case, shift linkage) is highly offensive. I'd tell you exactly where to get off.
But there's the difference...many of you are all about telling this guy how offensive or juvenile he is on the internet, but I wonder how many of you would actually risk taking a fist in the mouth for running your yap in person.
"I'd never put something like this on my bike." Ok, then DON'T! If if you're all uptight over it saying "F*ck off" on his bike, then go ahead and assume he's talking to you, because he is.
People have differing opinions and beliefs. That's why you choose to be friends with some people but not with others.
To the OP (jeff): If you like it, mount it and be proud.

Fundamentally, I agree. I'm a veteran, parent, Christian, and at times, a hypocrite...as it seems many people here are as well, yet I see nothing wrong with it. Freedom of speech, personal opinion, disrespectful or not, it's his right. I wouldn't do it myself, as is my right. It's not personally harmful AT ALL to any child or grandparent, so please stop with that arguement! All you "good" parents out there don't have anything to worry about with your child seeing something like that. After all, YOU raised them didn't you? YOU taught them, didn't you? Then keep on teaching them of the OPs right to use it, and your's (and your kids) to agree or not. Hell, by your teachings, they should be calling him an a$$hole or moron anyway, lol. If you don't like it or are offended by it, that's a personal problem. If it doesn't impact upon your own, or anyone else's liberties, move on!
