The ball bearings are missing....or known as the check *****. I'd contact whomever/where ever you got the pump from and let them know. You can get pn#8873 which are the ball bearings for $1.75 each

emailed the pump pic to the HD place that sold it to me and they pulled a few from the shelf. He said the first one had no bearings, the second had one and the third is presently in my bike which is back together and running
It seems to be a little advanced on the time but true to what I have heard the power has been moved and the bike is very responsive. Gonna ride to work this morning and put a few miles on it then its tune time.....
