I did a search and there was alot of good info but I still could not find an answer to this question,Has anyone wrapped thier headers with thermal wrap and put the heat shields back on???

I wrapped my bassani true dual powercurve with the black wrap and put the shields back on without a problem. I noticed it was not as hot. I also talked to Bassani before I wrapped them and the only thing they said was make sure you do not wrap tightly around the oxgen seensors because the welds could brake.

I have done it and here is my experience.
A well know and respected header manufacturer once told me NOT to wrap pipes on vehicles I wanted to keep. He said race cars and drag bikes do it because all that stuff gets stripped off, entire engines get rebuilt, new stuff gets put on afterwards and pipes and headers get replaced frequently.
He said that the wrap is desiged to keep heat IN which makes the gasses hotter and the resultant expansion pushes them out quicker for better flow. The retained heat he said, DESTROYS the metal over time. It overheats it and makes the metal brittle and susceptible to cracking and breaking.
Having heard all that, I went home and proceeded to wrap my Hooker True Dual head pipes anyway and slap the shields back on them. Right away I felt less heat. It smelled a little when they got wet from rain and washing, and they steamed a little too when drying, but by and large it was working fine.
About a year later I was doing some work on the bike and had to pull the exhaust. The wrap broke off in sections, and with it came huge flakes of metal off the pipes. The flakes just peeled off stuck to the wrap like a scab on an bandaid. This really OPENED my eyes. I guess the guy at the header shop was right.
My suggestion is to get them thermal coated.
