Im ready to ditch my full face helmet for the warmer weather and want to go 3/4 style. Having never owned one before any recommendations would be great. Are the carbon fiber helmets worth the cash? Can 3/4 helmets be both Snell and DOT approved?
I've used two Shoeii RJ-Air 3/4 helmets and they are excellent. They have the conventional 3-snap shield/hood configuration that will fit any such accessory, and the standard sun shade is excellent. The price is not-so-good, but you can sometimes get a bargain (~$75) on Ebay.
I love my SHOEI RJ-Platinum R. I have four other 3/4ths that are older and look new but I have worn out my SHOEI, just asked for a new one for my B-Day. It is both DOT and Snell approved.
Anybody with the Shoei RJ Platinum R have their visor snaps come loose which makes the visor rattle when riding? I tried to tighten the snaps to no avail and Shoei sent me a new visor at no charge. Seems when I took the visor off it loosened the visor snaps and they never worked right again.

I have an HD helmet that is both Snell and DOT approved and pleased with it for the past 2+ years/25K miles.
The 3/4 carbon fiber helmet is 3.1 lbs versus 3.8 lbs IIRC. For me, the diff in cost wasn't worth the $$$.
NOTE: I didn't read any of the other posts in your thread. But I'd looked into this a few months ago when considering the cf version of my helmet from HD.
