How many miles do you have on your bike?

Reason I'm asking is I did the same thing and finally discovered that the oil in my forks needed changing. If your bike has 20,000 +/- miles you need to get it changed...may not have been the tool bags fault.

hd recommends fork oil change at 50k on 07 and newer. changed mine to se heavy at 25k. feels much better.

Default tool bag dent

I did the same thing on a new 1991 FLHS while driveing onto a ferry. It was the first big fork compression I had. Ended up getting a new factory painted fender. There was nothing wrong with the forks.

As I said before all I had in the kit was that measley little MO CO tool kit from now on it will go in the saddlebag. The highway was California highway 80 over Donner Summit and it sucked rough as hell,Thought I was going to have put her in 4x4 to get over and I am sure that was part of the trouble. Update called HD dealer today and then called my local paint distributor loca can't match paint cause it's special hd paint 3 stage and HD wants $285 for a quart of the three parts of the paint stuff so I'll straighten the fender and put that small area into red primer for now. oh by the way only have 4500 miles on bike so don't think it's fork oil but thanks guys for the thought and responses. I guess I just wanted to let all you good HD folk to be careful and to VENT a little

I've seen alot of damaged fenders from bags and even a radar detector but thats the worst I've seen. I feel for you. Even if you can fix it yourself, its a PITA.

+1 Thanks for the heads-up as that could happen to any one of us. Though I have heard of guys mounting even a Gremlin bell in that area on some bikes and getting a dent.

Glad to hear you can fix it yourself at least - the rest of us would be shelling out the 100's!
