My 09 has done this twice in the last week but both times I forgot and had dropped my cell phone in my pocket with the fob. The first time it took me about 5 min to figure out what was going on but the next time I pulled the phone out and cycled the ignition and it started up
thats why it is so important to know how to do the manual override. so many folks don't bother with it, and then when its too late, wish they did.
I just did something very similar, except I was putting rain gear on and heading to the ferry terminal to cross over to the continent, realised it when I got to the gas station. Fortunately...I took a spare key with me and practised the manual overide, saved me a lot of hassle as I would have missed my ferry if I didn't have this option. Fortunately my wife flew out to join me a couple of days later with the Fob.
One thing I did notice which may be of use to members out there, having used the manual teqnique extensively for a couple of days you get to know it well, including what your alarm sounds like, but..
If you get the code entry wrong, for whatever reason, the alarm will go off. Be patient, wait for the alarm to go off and then watch the Security red "key" lamp. If you try to start the bike again after the alarm has stopped it will set the alarm off again. Wait for about a minute and the red light will change from solid on to flashing - when it starts flashing the bike is ready to try again.
If anyone out there knows how to "go back" to a previous digit please let me know. Happened a couple of times where I hit the right indicator button too early and then had to let the alarm go off and reset.

if i mess up and hit the enter button too fast and have a digit wrong, all i do is to shut the ignition off, and restart the process. the alarm has not gone off on me if i do this.

For some reason ( not telling) my bike stopped recognizing the Fobs. Dealer had two of his techs meet me at the dealership early on a Sunday when they are normally closed. Three of us running around with earplugs while they were using the Digital tech which reported " no key fobs present". While they were checking every wire possible I could not resist playing with the computer. Selected a couple of options and presto, all working. Poor guys, I did not admit to touching anything.
Buddy of mine also w/an 08 Ultra and I had the problem once. Bikes were close together and neither one could start the bikes. After a little while they both started up okay and have never had that problem again. Didn't bother mentioning it to dealer.
I suspected that the fob sooner or later would become a problem in one way or another. Got my 09 with out the fob I just use a disk lock now. I use hand cuffs no one messes with my bike. I have heard people talking when they did not know who owned the bike with the cuffs on it. They thought I was a Leo. I hope the thief's think so to.
