I went to start my 09 EGC this morning the way I always do, turned it to Ignition, waited for all the electronics to complete, pulled in the clutch and hit the start button . . . no engine cranking. Turned it to OFF and back to IGNITION and did it all over again . . . this time the engine cranked and started as usual. Stopped along the way and turned it offf and tried again . . . started fine! Talked to the dealer and dealer said that that may happen every once in a while if the key fob doesn't transmit or the computer doesn't boot correctly. He also said that this happened a lot more on the older models but not as much with the newer ones.
Has anyone had this happen? I hoping this is just one of those "it may happen every once-in-a-while" problems for which I just have to redo the start sequence and never really have a problem.
I installed the SSS with fob on my '07 last September and this has happened 2-3 times since that time. I just cycle the ignition switch and it has always started the second time, so I don't worry about it. I figured there was a slight interruption in the signal from the fob to module in my pocket, like maybe from a key or coin, and that moving a slight bit fixed it.
I haven't had this happen "yet" but a buddy of mine has had it happen twice... Both times was at the same gas station at the pumps when we went to leave. We figured it was some type of radio interference around the pump that interfered with his key fob...
Buddy of mine started his bike took off shirt, with fob in it , hung it up and went to the beach . Went to start bike , would not start because fob was at home in his shirt pocket .

thats why it is so important to know how to do the manual override. so many folks don't bother with it, and then when its too late, wish they did.
Happened to me twice. I don't know why but both times I had the fob in my left jacket pocket and both times I moved it to my right and the bike started. Problably just the movement and retransmitting as others have menitoned. It happens so rarely that I don't worry about it.
