Late last year I was interested in changing out my muffs. I was looking for something with a bit more of a low rumble but still civilized. Checked out different sounds on bikes and heard an Ultra with Rush mufflers that had 2.0 baffles. Sounded great. Looked around on e-Bay and found a set of Rush with 1.75 baffles that was reasonably priced. I'm thinking these should sound good without waking the dead.
Put them on and was surprised at how much louder they were than I expected. I did some shorter rides until this past weekend and thought maybe they will work. Did a charity ride this past weekend and put about 150 miles on the scoot. Man, did my ears ring after the ride. It was a good day before things settled down with my ears. Decide that will not work long term for me.
So, off come the Rush and back on with the OEM. Guess they didn't sound that bad after all.
Any one else experience something like this? Any way to quiet the Rush down a bit. The way they are is too loud for me.

I have the Jackpot/Fuel Moto tuned baffles and I'll admit it's a little louder then I like, but my ears don't ring. But I didn't mind the sound of stock pipes either, I was just looking for better performance and less heat. Fuel Moto's system accomplished this nicely and they do have a nice rumble. Jamie did say he could quiet up the baffles some if I wanted. Might take him up on that down the road.
The 2" Rush are the best sounding I have heard. The bike I rode behind this past Sunday sounded great and not to loud. I had a SG with Vance & Hines and a SG with Rush (true duals) out in front of me for a 225-mile ride. I had exhaust envy the whole time.

I have the rush with 2" and you barely hear them at cruisen speed maybe just a low rumble. Everyone that rides with me go on about how good they sound but I was afraid they were to quite guess not.
I had 2 1/4" baffles on my 07 Fat Boy and my ears hurt when I was done riding too. I almost bought some smaller baffles ($60) but I started reading where the RUSH pipes had a certain resonanece that hurt peoples ears. I don't know if this is true or not, but I switched to a louder Vance & Hines Big Radius setup and my ears never hurt after that.
I will admitt the RUSH are the best sounding pipes I've heard though.

This is the sound that I was looking for; just barely hear them as you're cruising. I was riding with a couple of others and the person behind me said it was a bit loud. So loud that he tended to stay a bit back from me to lower the sound.
Wonder if they need to be repacked? How often do you need to repack them?
Sounds like you should just get the 2" baffles they should change out. Dealer told me when I got ready to add my air cleaner I could get larger baffles for the pipes I had.

UltraDave ,I could fill a page about this. Will try and keep it short. First off pull the bafffles out. Easy to do. If you bought them off ebay no telling how many miles are on them. I bet the packing on the right side is gone. Left side good. Maybe not. Rush puts masking tape aound the packing to hold it in. Once the tape has burnt off, which does not take long, there is nothing to hold the packing in place. Like I said I could fill a page here. Pull 1-3/4 baffles and repack. The more material you put back in the quieter it will be. Use something besides masking tape to hold packing in. I put steel screen wire around the packing and then tie that on with baling wire. Anyway. Pull the baffles and see if any packing is left. Then get back with us. I have 2" repacked baffles on my Rushes now. Very happy with the low rumble. Repack your 1-3/4 and I bet you will like them a lot more.
