New here and tried a search on this so don't beat me down too bad. I ride an '09 RoadGlide. The front tire seems to be wearing oddly, the rear of the tread block is wearing alot more than the front. Kind of looks like a saw tooth pattern from a side view. Took the bike to the dealer and they took pics of the tire and said they would send them to HD. They looked up a bulliten about the tire wear and for a replacement tire with a new tread pattern. I got word today that yes it's wearing improperly but it is not a warrenty issue. I can buy one for about $180 plus install. So my Q is has anyone with the new style, '09 touring tire, have this problem?
I saw an 09 Ultra the other day with the same exact problem. Dealership that sold the bike said same as yours. The bike had around 4500 mi on it. I have heard there may be a different [style/make??] tire in the future. At this point it seems there is no blow out issue. Wish I had nore info for you.
The dealer said they have the new tire in ready for purchase. The tread is supposed to be reversed. As far as the safety side of it I don't know. I have 7454mi on it and hate to replace it but safety comes first.
I experieced the same problem with the front tire on my 2009 FLHT. After 4500 miles the wear bars were showing, the tires were cupped, and they had the same sawtooth wear as you describe. The service writer at Harley told me it was due to the agressive way I ride. To make a long story short, they contacted Harley Tech and replaced them under the warranty. Go back to the dealer and make them work on the problem. The advertising for the tires suggest better mileage than the 402 Dunlops.
'09 RG here. No unusual wear pattern (yet) after 3600+ miles, but these damned things howl like crazy. I sound like a miniature 4 wheeler going down the road.
Man, I am not real happy about this. My front now has a little over 5200 miles and is only 1/16" from being bald at the leading edge and there is about 5/8 of tread at the trailing edge. I love the grip with these things but 6 thousand miles from a front tyre is crap.
