I just don't understand why those kids in their Honda Civics get to have a cannon for an exhaust and they whine down the road for miles, but my V&H pipes that only make sound when I open the throttle is considered Noise Pollution.
+1 to that. Lets get the people with the booming stereo systems as well.
This upcoming enforcement is the main reason I replaced my stock pipes wtih "modified" stock pipes, to preserve the EPA stamp. Several companies are doing this, including a couple here on the forum and on ebay.
I also retained by stock pipes (as an '06 they have a catalyst in the right pipe) just "in case."

Yeah but the scariest part is what's going to happen, or how much will it cost bike owners, when their bikes fail smog checks due to non-epa approved engine builds. Kind of makes you wonder how law enforcement is going to enforce this on the thousands and thousands 1% er bikes eh?

It's because you're an evil Harley rider!
Remember, the good motorcyclists are on Hondas! Wasn't there an ad like this? You meet the nicest people on a Honda!
Coming from a Police Officers perspective, I was told by my Chief that I had to enforce the loud pipes whether that being trucks, cars and bikes because of constant complaints from citizens. Citizens were complaining about the loud noise late at night (more specifically bar time). I found that most of the time it was a couple of clowns leaving the bars on scoots. Usually showboating. Didn't bother me one bit but for the people not staying up until 2 am I'm sure it was plenty disturbing. I specifically chose not to enforce this rule unless I have to, or someone is so obviously abusing the law to the point I have to. Even then I refuse to write citations and only write warnings. I found myself guilty of this to so kind of makes it hard to enforce.
+1 on being a good cop. Not because you sometimes don't enforce the law to the letter, but because you excercise the difference between the "spirit of the law" and the "letter of the law" with logic and discretion. You are a breath of fresh air for me. I have been intaking arrest's from law enforcement personel for 22 years and I wish they all had the level of personal skills you have.

This is my counter point, If you can't do the job you where paid to do get another job. From my perspective if you clamped down on all abusers (Cars, Trucks, motorcycles and boats) we would not have a problem that will now be legislated much more concisely and now enforce with the federal goverment backing.
I am not sorry to say some of these guys need a ticket that will hit them in the pocket book to wise up and wake up. But instead you choose to interpret the law instead of enforcing existing law. So now we need more legislation. Sorry you are part of the problem.
Now in closing this whole mess has been created by us bikers no one else. The Mrytle beach thing is real funny. From the sounds a real nice place to have a bike meet is now close because of bikers that have no manners or sense. So everyones opinion screw them we will take our money some place else. What you don't understand they could care less because the reality is we will be replaced by a higher paying higher paying group of people. So eventually bike rallies will be held in the deserts so far removed from civilization it will be ridiculous. Boy we sure showed those cities a thing or two.
Also in response to the OP you can bet as certain as the sun coming up these laws will be further written and enforced.

Sorry that you don't agree with what I had to say but the government has granted me with a certain level of DISCRETION and if they didn't want me to have that DISCRETION they would create legislation that would take it away and America would be a crappy place to live because we would be recieving citations for doing five over the speed limit, etc... I am not interpreting the law the way I see fit but I am enforcing it just not to a level you would like to see it enforced. If I stop someone and give them a warning like I said in my earlier post, means I am enforcing the law. If I write a ticket, I am enforcing the law. They are two different levels of enforcement. Guess you can't make everyone happy... Just the way it is... Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

You couldn't be farther from the truth on this. First of all, Myrtle Beach never had a real plan to draw a new crowd! they lost their biggest draw for families and that was the Hard Rock Theme Park. Talk to the business owners there and the majority had no real issue with the bikers there. It was the minority that had issues! The residents who complained...mostly new residents who never did their homework about Myrtle Beach! Most of the old timers there welcome us and have no quarrels with us. The Head Idiot at Nyrtle Beach let it slip without realizing it when he said it had to do with Allowing Memorial Day to be Memorial day (Ever see a Non-Patriotic Biker? alot of the Harleys there Fly their own flags!). Well...if ya think real hard...The Harley Riders have cleared out by then. He aimed it at Atlantic Beach bike week! Why? Well, you said it right on that one "manners and sense"! Now...we all can be idiots...but he targeted it to that!
The Myrtle Beach Village Idiot just changed the laws to make it easier to Cite a violator! But I'll ask you this. If it was such an imposition...Why did the county and North Myrtle Beach welcome us with open arms? Hmmmmmm?
