Certainly your choice on stock or not. But when you buy a Harley, the cheapest part is the bike. The real spending begins (bling, bling, bling)

I'm on my 3rd Harley now.

1st one, '02 Mild Custom Sporty XL 1200C with rear wide tire kit, bored carb, mild engine work, shorty pipes and all the chrome bling as it's f#*king loud and vibrates where all of the parts keep falling off so I had to tighten up with loctite every 2 or 3 rides. Yeah, PITA. I still have the Sporty and love it so much with no plans to get rid of this bad *** baby.

2nd one, '06 RKC with slip-on exhausts which does decel poppings. Engine's all stock and a few chrome bling. Traded it on new Ultra. RKC sorely missed these days.

3rd one, '09 Ultra Classic...All stock and tons of chrome bling. No plans on engine work or exhaust modifications.

Guess it has something to do with my age as I get older and wiser every year, LOL.

I have just about 15K on my 08 SG...no engine or air cleaner mods...and no complaints. This may bring flames down on me...but also no problems....there seems to be a correlation between engine mods and problems....of course, this could be in my head and your mileage may vary...Oh, and just to make sure I really get flamed...I think the stock pipes are fine and believe that good riding saves more lives than loud pipes...

Mine's stock including A/C and pipes. It runs fine. I would like to have less heat and a little more power but don't want the noise. If anyone makes good quality high flow exhaust that are as quiet (or quieter) than stock I'll consider going to stage 1.

I have an 07 Ultra. Stock engine, exhaust, etc.
This past weekend I had a set of Rinehart True Duals installed coupled with a SE/AC and a SERT.
I do not consider this engine modification since I did nothing to the engine.
Now that said, you install the big bore kit and replace the cams...
that's an engine modification.

My need to upgrade was to reduce the heat from the pipes and not wanting the bike to run so lean.
It now runs like a bike should!
Have I upgraded my fuel system and exhaust? yes...
Is this an engine modification? No.
Just my opinion

Default Why not

I'm coming off owning all metrics before my 2008 ultra and my friends think i'm nuts also, but am going to keep the engine/pipes stock for a few years.when i'm done paying for it,i plan on upgrading to true duals w/mods to engine and air filter then.for me,it runs/sounds great.i pretty much left my other bikes stock as well.just my personal preference.

I agree! The ac/sert/exhaust is just to awaken the engine. Probably how HD would have done it!

My 06 SG is stock other than the slip ons. I feel as though it gives me enough power when I need it but I would still love to have more. Money is the issue for me.
