Default Does anyone run a stock engine?

2009 FLHRC Vivid Black

This is my first harley..... I have to admit I rode metrics before.
I Love it....Love It ....Love It..... It handles better than anything I have ridden has more than enough power and torque..... the pipes sound like a Harley.. My quandry.... It seems everyone I talk to says I need to add a stage one Kit or at least change the mufflers.. When I tell them I am going to leave it stock they look as though I have two heads..They talk as though HD dosn't build a decent machine.. I look at the charts and there is not much gain 10 maybe 15 % for a Stage one..
BTW..... I have already added $1k worth of goodies and the other half is starting to question my sanity

I am on my 6th Harley, first touring bike, second bike with 96" motor.

This is the first bike I have left motor stock and been totally satisfied.

My 88" motor softails needed the Stage I. I put 1550 kit on one and loved it but it increased vibrations at highway speeds so I traded for 2009 Street Glide and have no regrets.

This is my second Harley. First one was an '05 EGC and it was a stage II set up with 95" motor. A great bike that served me well til wrecked in November at 92,000 miles. Had no probs with it other than normal maintenance items. It did sort of suck gas badly though I suppose cuz of the upgrades and it not being tuned as well as it could have been perhaps.

This '09 RK is bone stock and will stay that way. I'm very happy with it as-is right down to the air cleaner and mufflers. It's giving me 42 mpg in the mountains on my long commute and runs flawlessly. It just turned 10,000 miles and is smooth and comfortable. Power is ample and I'm enjoying the softer tone of the exhaust after having had loud exhaust on my past couple bikes.

Other than a few bling items and a solo saddle that I'll be putting on it I have no plans to change the motor/intake/exhaust at all.

A lot of folks run stock. Because of the forum it may appear a lot more people modifiy their scoots. As for me, I cannot leave anything alone, it's an addicition.

Fist bike 07 EGC ran that stock, and the 09 Ultra is stock. I was thinking about changing it up but will wait for awhile. Like the sound and the feel so no need to change it right now.

I don't consider a better air cleaner and exhaust "modifying an engine". Nor do I think adding a SERT makes your engine "modified". These are just ways of tuning your machine to run better and cooler. They do make it sound better too.

I do think alot of guys talk about modifying the engine, but never get around to it for any number of reasons. If a poll was taken, I bet you would see that more people have NOT opened up their motor, versus people that actually did.

Yea, I suppose it gets to what it included in an "engine mod".

For me, I have a stock "engine." However, I am doing a Stage 1, adding AC, slip-ons (I like deeper exhaust note), and PC V to richen it up a bit and take advantage of the extra power.

So the bike is not "stock" in the literal sense of the word.

I have an '06 RKC that is bone stock (engine & exhaust) except for seat, handlebars, tach, and EZbrake pedal. Love the bike! I've done big bore builds on other Harleys that I've owned. IMHO, sometimes after you start tinkering, you can't stop! You just keep tweaking!

If you are happy with the bike and it does what you want it to do, I wouldn't worry about other people. If you are happy with it, that is all that really counts!!!
