The buffeting is coming from below, not over the shield. Adding fork lowers will help.
Not entirely true if you are using a recurve from Clearview. If you are used to a 12" stock shield and change to their 9 1/2" there is much more wind coming from the sides of the shield as they taper quickly from the sides compared to the stock shields.
... back to the baffle - HD's site makes it sound like it's replacing a black one thats already on the bike, which I dont believe is the case for the FLHTC that I have.
Those that have it I take it that there is a noticeable difference when installed??? Also, any negative effects on engine cooling?
Thanks,
Jerm

Well, I can see how that can happen, nvsteve. I stand corrected.
Double plus on the fork baffle. I went from stock to the Clearveiw had a lot of buffing. Then I ordered the 10 inch Halfmoon, much wider than stock and Clearveiw. The Halfmoon cut the buffing 50% then I added the fork baffle. Wow thats the ticket. Wife now very happy on back !!!
Install the lower fork baffle, its a small half dish that goes between the forks ahead of the fuel tank. Eliminates majority of the wind baffle. Probably the best $30 you will spend. Two screws and two minute install
I hadn't seen this before??? Thanks... i will defenitely buy one...
Somewhat of a noticeable difference with the baffle, probably more helpful when it's raining or real cold, I was told the baffle were factory installed on some models years past maybe late 90s or early 2000s.
I've asked about the cooling issue with the HD rep. at the South Dakota State HOG Rally in 07 and he said it provides rider comfort and didn't have any concerns with leaving it on during the summer. I would say it provides maybe 25% reduction in (up your nose) blast on my Ultra.
Appreciate the tip on the fork lower, and the HD part number. Assume this part would also help on RG fork to reduce wind in the cockpit area? Thank you.
I stand corrected I have the 9"halfmoon not the clearview I don't know what I was thinking!!! It's been a long day!! But interesting on the fork lower!!
I have the 12" Clearview with recurve and the fork baffle. Almost no wind hitting at all. I wear a beanie most of the time and my face is in a wind free zone, actually surprisingly calm. Tried a variety of shields, the Clearview beats them all. Still can't figure how one rides with the stock 4" shorty shield on a Street Glide. I've had to pull over on the highway just to get my bearings and try to bring my glasses back to my face.
The baffle will instantly improve matters. Try it, I think you'll appreciate the recommendation.
