First idea: 1000 miles.....Bring it to the dealer.
If you like DIY, locate the neutral sensor on the top of your transmission, visible from the right side of the bike. Remove the two 90 degree wire connectors from the sensor, and test the continuity of the sensor. Should be open in gear and closed in neutral.
If the sensor is working properly, then the wires are probably shorted somewhere.
If the sensor is not working properly, you can remove it and see if the little ball on the end is stuck. Maybe you can get it working. Otherwise you can replace it.
My 07 SG did it from the day I picked it up new in Sept 06 and has been fixed under warranty 2 times. The last one lasted about 9 months so when it went out again 3 weeks ago, I stopped by the dealer. I learned theres a Serv Bulletin on it & a newly designed switch. Dealer couldnt get me in anytime soon but since I know all of them, I said Id do it & they gave me the new switch. ... easy job
