Default Ultra Front Speakers

I recently installed the latest and greatest HogTunes front speakers. I am pleased with the improvement. While swapping them out, I noticed the very restrictive perforated plastic panel that HD uses directly behind the cloth grille. Has anyone modified this panel or better yet, removed it, to see what difference it makes? I have to believe that it would make a diference, I'm just wondering if it helps or hinders the sound by being modified.

These are a good option. Drastic improvement over the stock stuff.

I've been thinking about your post, and while I can understand the desire to replace the solid plastic grills with something less restrictive to improve the sound, I'm wondering if the stock ones are designed to be impervious to water/rain, etc., and if anything else would let water attack the speaker cones?

Raaze07, I think you have a very valid point and it is one I had also considered. I have no idea if altering the grille will be a negative, but my understanding was that the Hog Tunes speakers were marine grade and presumably water resistant up to a point. That said, the degree of restriction on the stock grilles must be enormous, but I don't know if Hog Tunes have already chosen or modified their speakers to accommodate this restriction. I will investigate the Biketronics grilles mentioned above.

keep in mind that water on the speakers could result in water inside the fairing. The speakers may be impervious to water but other items in the fairing are not.

Just thinking out loud.
