Alright, lets hear it from all those who swing the shifts! Speaking for myself, I just got off at 0700 this morning and to tell you the truth a cold Miller Lite tastes pretty good at that time. Hear me now the shifts suck but when you have/need a job you do what you have to do.

18 years working 4/12 hr shifts (2 Days/2 Nights) and 4 days off. I don't think I can work a day job. 2 days off a week? I love my 4 days off. Lots of time to ride when everyone else is at work.

 

JohhnyD - sounds like you got it made. Tyr rotating seven straight 8 hr days, 2 days off and move to the next 8 hr shift rotation for seven days, ect and at the end of the 3rd week, wooo-hoo a 3 day weekend. Only to start all over again. Oh, did I say throw in some 12 hr shifts in there when someone calls in sick? Now that sucks brother!!!

Well atleast you are working more than some can say.....and i worked the mid - 8 shift for allot of years...but now i am straight days.....and that can suck...but again atleast i am working...

I did 6 years on graveyard 10:00 PM to 6:00AM it's not heathly glad to be back to day shift and not walking around like a zombie.

 

My Dad did that tour shift for 35+ years, retired at 62, passed away at 75 and couldn't sleep through the night because of working that rotten a$$ shift for all those years. The company I work for used to do the same, but went to the compressed work week a few years before I started there. I wouldn't work there if they still did it!

I work in a heavy industrial county, and companies are following suit and going to the 12 hr shifts. That tour shift takes a huge toll on a persons body.

Believe me, having 4 days off is awesome. My sleeping pattern doesn't get messed up at all, being that I only work 2 nights a week. But, when people call in sick I occasionally work 16's or even 18's if noone will come in. But they pay us dearly for it.

All the guys I work with who worked the 8 hr shifts like you do, say when they went to the 12 hr shifts, they fought it, but now would never go back to 8 hr shifts. Something to think about where you work.

 

I normally work from 2PM to 10PM and every chance I get work a double shift...meaning from 2PM to 6AM. That's 16 hours there for the mathematically disadvantaged. Due to the economic crisis, my regular pay has been slashed quite a bit, so the overtime is the only way I'm gonna make it...without selling toys.

 

Worked 2PM-1AM for the past three years, before that 5PM-5AM roughly for 4 years.

I hear ya. But being off mid-week wasn't too bad sometimes.

 

I didn't mind the 12M-8am shift .....it really pissed off my neighbors though
