6PM - 6AM three days one week then four days the next. So we get at least eight hours of OT every other week. This is my short week and as always it's a good week Love the four days off

Ive been working in gas plants since June 1981....I'll be starting my 29th year soon. Of those years....24 of em have been on 12 hr shifts in operations. Sure....I have my 'zombie' days....coming home @ 4:30am...getting to sleep around 6 am....getting up @ 9:30am so I can 'do things' (he he). It has good & bad points....All in all....I wouldnt TRADE IT for 'nothin'!

I like shift work....wouldnt want a straight day job. I wash the bike on weekends I work....Ive installed many of my accessories on nights. I LOVE being off during the week.....little things like going to the bank, the store, goin' fishing, to the H-D dealership if I need maint. work....not near the 'crowds'. Best part.....I like having that 'week of vacation' every month!!!

Some say ya lose 7 yrs off ya life working shift work....cause your system's screwed up. Me...I'll just keep eatin' my prunes....besides....they're GOOD for YA!!!

Well I don't do swing , but I do go to work at 3AM and I don't get out till about 2PM some days I get out as early as 10AM. My off day's are Wednesday and Sunday and that's if I don't bid OT to help pay for the toy's. All in All work SUCKS for everybody.

Powerplant operator at a paper mill. 20 yrs of 12 hr swing 6AM/6PM.

4 week cycle goes like this ...
- FSSM..........nites
- TWT...........off
- FSS............days
- M...............off
-TWT............nites
- FSS............off
- MTWT........days
- FSSMTWT...off
- rinse and repeat.

36 hr one week 48 the next and work 2 weekends a month. That 7 day stretch every 4th week makes it all worth it. That's 13 weeks a year, tack a vacation on(I get 5) and get 2 weeks for the price of 1, add a couple floating holidays and make it longer. Only problem is you have to burn 1.5 8 hr holidays to get a day off.

Don't think I could go back to straight days. My days are 30 hrs long while the rest of the world is doing 24. My bud works 5AM-1PM, M-F, now that I could live with.

At least you guys have somewhat of a schedule. I go in at 8:30am and don't have a set time to leave. Sometimes I get out at 5:30, sometimes 8:00 and even have got out as late as after midnight. Never know day to day. Really sucks not knowing what time you are going to be getting home. Every other Saturday too and now they are throwing in Sundays on the week we work Saturdays. Did this without even talking to us about it. There isn't supposed to be any Sundays.
