If you go with the Harley adj. backrest when you run the cable make SURE you protect your fender from the cable under the seat or it will rub your paint off! It happened to mine before I even knew it If you haven't bought it yet check out the Mustang setup, they make one that bolts to the Harley fender and works with the factory seat's, the pad pivots with your back and is easier to adjust fore and aft than the Harley adj. one I had! Here's a link for you!
I have the Harley adjustable back rest on my '08 as well. The only time that it leaves the bike is when I remove the seat. That little pressure on the lower back has cured my upper back ache.
Watch your cable routing. I initially had mine routed so that the edge of the drive belt touched the cable when the suspension compressed. An easy fix, I just didnt see the problem at first.
For me the adjustability of the back rest is a joke. I have the rest shoved as far back as it will go. Since it works, I leave it alone. Initially I was going to bend the support bracket back, but why fix success.

I am looking at the HD adjustable rider backrest's for my '09 EGC. This is the one that raises up and down as well as tilts forward and back with the gas shock. I am fairly happy with the stock seat after going on 4-500 mile day rides here in Colorado. My a*& doesn't hurt, just my back. I am thinking some back support would help. Does anyone own one, and what do you think? Like it, not, etc. Thanks for any info.
Mike
i have it on my 09 UC, and i love it, helps get rid of the lower back pain by making you sit up straight.
...had it installed when I purchased the bike. Had chrome tourpack lid rack installed too. The backrest is the most beloved thing on my bike.
Bad back= comfort!
Hey Mike. I have a Harley adjustable on my RG. It makes a HUGE difference in back comfort for me. I have it on for any ride more than an hour long (which means it hardly ever comes off!).
It will adjust back to where I can hardly feel it, or forward where it is very firm against my back.
I Sold mine on Ebay, bought a Mustang w/mount for $232 delivered, this mount fits the back much better than the HD version and is easy to remove. Highly recommend.
