Even my dealer..(who I have great respect for) had trouble putting the thing on the bike properly...it need some bending too...the backrest is just not as well constructed as it has been in past years
Just had my backrest and passenger backrest installed yesterday. Brought it in Friday just before closing for the 9am appointment on Saturday. Was told it would be a 3 hour install. It get there @ 3pm and it still was not ready. I said to the service manager, " are you ****ing kidding"? He said, the tech still had another hour and a half to go. I voiced my displeasure tracked down the service manager and the guy that sold me the bike. Funny how they got it done much sooner than the hour and a half. Supposedly the problem with the install is the cable. Doesn't sound like a "do-it yourself job". By the way I really like the adjustable feature. You can adjust it forward or backwards when you are going down the road. It does give the passenger less room, with the backrest all the way back, there is only 9 inches for the passenger, with it all the way forward, they get 14 inches, but then the rider has to sit kinda forward

We bought the backrest when we got the bike. It took them 3 weeks to get it in. I can tell you it hasn't been off since I got it installed. Makes both long and short distance riding more pleasurable.
I had one on my 09 Ultra that I have since sold. Once you have riddin with a backrest, theres no going back. If you ride with a passenger with a thick lower body it can be a little less comfortable for them with the backrest on.
I will be selling my adjustable backrest soon. It will include the 09 mounting kit.
The 09 mounting kit is designed to mount to your left side heat shield using the existing heatshield bolt used to mount to your frame. Its a very simple install, I would include some zip ties to help manage the activation cable.
I do not have the instruction but if someone is close to KC area and is interested, I would like 200.00 and would and help you install.

Ridiculous. My Mustang backrest took all of 2 minutes to install with one wrench.
