Default "NEW" Zumo 550 question

My Zumo is on order and won't be here for another week. My hard wire power cable is here along with some dynazorb for the fairing. Anywho...... I'm ready to pull the fairing to install this cable and d-zorb. Question is, how much slack should I leave at the gps end of this cable? I will be using the handle bar mount from HD.

Thanks

Its hard to say until you have the GPS itself. Mounting position and angle will play a role. Best bet would be to go ahead and install it, leave a bit of slack inside your fairing, and then once you have the mount and unit, you can adjust as needed. Don't cut the cables, simply tie them up with a zip tie. That would be my recommendation

Thanks trail,

Anyone else have this setup that can tell me how much slack to leave. Also, what do you do with the cable when not using the gps?

It really depends on the mount your using, etc. I would just wait and do it all at once.

Just a thought, why did you order the 550 & not the new just released 660?

Default I don't use a Harley mount...but

the end of the cable plugs into the mount. The GPS unit can be removed from the mount to take inside overnight on trips, download, hook up to your laptop, or just keep secure.

So the cable remains secured to the mount full time. The only component that fits on and off the mount is the Zumo unit itself. (Unless, of course, you pull the mount off the bike for some reason...)

Yup, I've got that Harley mount and that's exactly right.
