Congrats on the bike. Not many can say they're in the wind for 5 grand...no monthly payments...cheaper insurance. With a good service history you'll get another 50, 60, 70k out of it easily. Look over the maintenance and see exactly what was done to it, and when. At 100K+ you may want to make a to do list and a tackle a certain project once a month. Maybe swingarm bushings one month, wheel bearings another, etc. Something to stay busy with if you enjoy wrenching. These motors will go 200k if well maintained so I wouldn't be too concerned if it was taken care of.

Thumbs up I got it!!!!!

Great idea 2000. I will get it all documented and then post up what has been done and hopefully the peeps on the forum can lead me in the right way on what I should work on. Swing arm bearings and wheel bearings sound like a very logical place to start.

Now the best news of all is that I picked it up for $4k. Yes... $4k!!!!! Below is a picture of it. I love it big time!! I'm already thinking of a new stereo, replacing the windshield, check out the shocks cuz it seems a bit of a rough ride than the 09 that I rented.

Thanks for all of your help!!!!

Z

That is a good looking scoot. Would be hard to pass up for $4k. But, from all I have read and heard, you really shouldn't compare the ride with an '09, even with new shocks... FWIW.

You don't get much in today's world for $4k -- you got a heck of a deal my friend. I bet you could turn around and sell it on craigslist as is and make a profit, but I'd keep it and enjoy the ride.

There a lots of old Harleys still on the road. They are not like metrics where it's hard to find parts or someone who can or will work on it.Sound to me like a good deal even if you have to re-do some things.

These bikes, if maintained properly (which it sounds like your seller did), can run 200k without a major problem.

Welcome to the forum, you'll learn alot here and have alot of fun too.

Maybe a trip to a shop with the bike to have a few things looked-over (compression check, look for leaks behind primary where trans shaft is, check the motor mounts, etc.

For 5k I say you've got a deal there.
I agree that a 100k motor isn't necessarily an imminent disaster in the making. My last bike (an Evo) had 106k when traded in and I would've ridden that bike anywhere. Now 2˝ years later it has 120k on the clock and still has the same compression as in 1998 (first check) and no increase in oil consumption. The engine has never been worked on except a cam and lifter change, and the heads have never been off that bike.

I think having a good tech check the bike out is a good idea, but even if it needs work (top-end, etc.) you can get a rebuilt motor or do a top-end job for a good-enough price to still make the deal a good one.
