Default HOG Down

Been a while since we spoke so I thought I'd drop you a line and fill you in on a recent event I took place in. Three weeks ago coming home from work on the bike I was involved in a wreck. A 71 year old man not looking took me out. He turned in front of me with no warning. I slammed into the side of his SUV and was thrown over the truck and bike. I landed in the ditch on the other side of the road on my back. Looking up I noticed my bike standing on its front wheel to my left. I figured it will fall one of two ways and as luck would have it, it fell on me, crushing my right chest. The old man ran over all upset and apologizing for his fault and attempted to lift the bike off of me while another guy pulled me out from under it.
I was flown by chopper to the trauma center where I remained for 7 days. Here's my score…..7 broken ribs clean through, 3 in multiple places, collapsed lung (complete with chest tube), bruised kidney, 8" laceration on my right leg (don't a have the stitch count). I now know what a 10 is on the pain scale. Best part of the hospital stay were the nurses and the morphine. Oh yes the morphine was great!
Received the estimate back on the bike for damages, $14,600. It's totaled. Came back to work Monday to keep from going crazy at home. In all my years of riding I've never tangled with a vehicle. Don't think I ever want to do that again. It will be a while but I will ride again. Been looking at the new 2009 Harley Street Glides, can't decide on a color, but I have time.

Ride Safe!

Helluva way to go about getting an 09. Glad you are going to survive the ordeal.

Any guy who is that busted up and thinking about the color of his new ride should have a very speedy recovery.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. As stated in previous posts...riding in Florida sucks because of this same condition.
Im glad that you are back and wish you a speedy recovery.

get better man and get a great looking bike. What riding gear were you wearing when you wrecked? I guess I just see all these harley guys around with the beanie helmets and a leather jacket and wondered if harley made a full piece suit for protection.

Wow - that's one nasty accident! I can't imagine what it must have been like to look up and see the bike coming down on you . Glad you are out of the hospital and thinking about a new bike. I hope the insurance companies treat you well and you can upgrade after dealing with all this.

Glad you're still here to laugh about it being a reason to get an '09. Godspeed.
