Thanks guys for all the opinions and photos. I'm thinking that a tach may be something I can add later. Probably just skip it for now, and see how I do without it. I had ridden an 08 RKC and was curious how many RPMs I was making at highway speed. 70 mph seemed to be kind of in between 5th and 6th gear. Anyway, thanks again.

Scott

IMO u don't need the tach when I got my flhp it had the tach mounted up front on the bar cover and when i got my hoppe fairing I removed it and believe me you won't miss it. I now how my bike sounds and feels when its time to shift. Don't worry about it save urself some dough or just go out get a crap load of chrome. thats my .02

I actually use mine quite a bit, not to tell when to shift or to stay away from redline, but to stay above 2000 rpm to keep from lugging the engine. I don't need it, but it's nice to have. Mine came with the bike, so I didn't have to make the "add" decision.

I put one on my now gone 01 RK. never used it.
It did come in handy when the HD speedo broke every other week though!
I shift based on speed, engine feel and sound.

+1 I use mine on both of my bike to stay above 2000 rpm to keep from lugging the engine.

You dont need a tacho, its just a nice to have. When the 124 gets a head of steam up I dont have time to look at the tacho anyhow...
+1 I have the same speedo/tach combo- only look at the tach to make sure that I'm not lugging but I like the look- more blingy than useful!!!
