Default Break In Method

Just got my '09 SG. Any good ideas on how to break in the engine.

Yep, use this guys method and you will not be disappointed at all. That old "Stay under 30 mph for the first 1000.....bla bla bla" that dealers try to sell you is old news.

like the two posts above said the old break in procedures are old news. with todays machining processes and tooling there is no need for the extended slow speed low rpm break in period. when i picked up my streetglide in '06 the dealer told me all that stuff about break in and then he told me that they ran it to 6000 rpm's a couple of times on the dyno already. then after i did a build on the top end, fresh dino oil for 20 miles or so, drain refill with fresh dino again and ride it like you stole it. changed back to syn. around 1000 miles on build. now with just under 20000 miles its as strong as ever.

I did the MotoMan break-in on my Buell Ulysses, but I ran the Ultra a little gentler. Emphasis on "a little".

I would follow the procedure in the owners manual.

I would vary the rpms without lugging the motor, run to 100 mph and below.

I took it easy for the first 50 miles, then let her rip at varying speeds for the next 500, now I just ride it like I stole it!

Congrats on the bike, and welcome to the site. I varied my speed and did moderate accelerations up to about 4500 rmp. the manual says you could go up to 5000 rpm after the first 50 miles I believe but I did want to rev that high.
