Just measured a brand new D407, unmounted rear tire. Measured at 4 different locations around the tire, all were 10/32". Replacing the current rear tire @24,954 miles. I should have replaced it a couple of thousand miles ago but that rubber is too hard to remove with hand tools until the temp warms up. Leaving it out in the warm sunshine for a couple of hours makes a big difference. Bye the way, I never got anyway near that kind of mileage out of a rear tire before. Usually 8-10k is about it. For once, that Harley advertising that says owners can expect extended mileage out of the new dual compound D407 rear tires is accurate. Most times it is just marketing hype and BS.

Old thread I know, but was reading this to see how many miles to expect on the rear D407. I got 13,5k on my rear rear and it had 2/32 left. When I put the new one on, it had slightly over 9/32nds. So, new rear tire has slightly over 9/32 on it. Hope this helps someone. This was my first tire replacement on the new '11 I have with this new type of rear tire. I'm very impressed with the mileage as I only got about 7500 on the '03 rear tires.

Should have measured this at the beginning
I believe its right at 11/32

I believe its right at 11/32, I got over 15K on my first one and over 20K on my 2nd. 31K on the front before changing

I was curious how much rubber was left before the cords and took a hole saw and cut thru my old tire. the tread depth is 3/32" and these tires have a nice safety margin of rubber left when they are at 2/32" where I normally change. I changed this one out early last year at 8500 miles because I was leaving on a long trip.

I've got almost 14,000 on my D407 now and probably still have another 1,000+ left. It's all in how you ride and keeping the pressure set correctly. I just replaced the front tire with about 13,500 on it.

In my neck of the woods every road is chip sealed and that is the biggest factor in tire wear. I keepmy tires at proper pressure and check them weekly but chip seal roads are like riding on a rubber grinder.
