Default Cam swap special tools needed...please

Hi guys. I will be getting my new cams this week and have all the parts to swap out my tensioners and such, but need some of the tools to be able to complete this.

I need to borrow if anyone has the cam locking tool to remove the gears on the front for 2000-2006 model tc, a bearing puller for the inner bearings, and whatever else might be needed besides the oil pump alignment screws. I would just buy them all, but money is tight right now. I know George's garage sells all these parts, but I don't have the cash for that right now. Let me know what you got. I'll pay shipping here and back. Zip is 90034.

Is there anything I can make any of these tools out of for inexpensive? that is another option. I know I can get a bearing puller from Autozone to rent, but what about the other stuff? Thanks a million. Happy Memorial day to all.

I'm relating to an '07 cam swap I did about two months ago, and if your TC88 is like mine you don't need the locking tool. Just put it in gear and have someone hold the rear brake while removing the bolts, which weren't difficult at all on my bike. Use the same procedure for torquing them back on.

If you can't find a loaner tool for the inner bearings, buy one for a TC88 here. I have one for the TC96 which was a breeze to use and cost <$100. Alas, it won't fit your bike's smaller bearings. Buy Timkins to replace the INA's in your bike.

I haven't used an Auto Zone puller but I've been told if not positioned properly they and other blind pullers can cause the bearing to come apart and the needles may fall into the crankcase. If that happens you're in for an adventure you likely didn't bank on.

Thanks iclick. I was reading your thread about your swap which was what got me thinking. I then saw you had a newer bike. I might be asking some questions in the future.

The '07 and later cams are easier to swap than earlier bikes, one reason being the outer bearings aren't pressed into the cam plate. Instead, they are "native metal" bearings that just slip in. You'll need some means to press yours in, and never having done it before I'm assuming you'll need a hydraulic press for this task.

You can use oven/freezer method.

I know about the pressing part. I have a friend who has a press. Or, I can do the oven freezer. Looks like I am going to have to shell out for the special tools. Just adds another couple of weeks till it can be done. Patience for this young grasshopper.

Well its seems George's is out of stock on the inner cam bearing puller. Is there anywhere else to get this. The link given above I had to join and am awaiting approval from the admin or something.

The guy selling the inner-bearing tools shipped very quickly and I got my kit three days after Paypaling him the money. It's a very well-made tool, IMO, especially for the price. You could likely sell your tools to someone after using them. I thought about that but decided to keep them in case I buy another bike and.... I need to chill a bit.
