What I was asking is how does the jug come off with out having to remove the cylinder head and all associated hardware? I have not looked closely at this yet but I will be so I will figure it out. I have the manual and WILL READ it.

Your original post implied a reasonable level of mechanical experience. With that in mind I was a little surprised at your question since I'm not familiar with a reciprocating engine that doesn't have the cylinder head on top of the jug/barrel/cylinder, & needs to be removed to access any base gaskets (assuming that the cylinders are removable).
You will need to remove the gas tank, the carb & manifold, head, & maybe drop the motor lower in the frame by removing the front motor mount. None of which is very complicated or time consuming. I'm guessin' that since you feel confident in working on your transmission, you shouldn't have any problem with base gaskets. You'll need more specialized tools for the transmission than for the base gaskets. The only specialty tool you'll need there is a ring compressor.
Ok that was what I was assuming. It just looked like from the one statement that there was a way that I was not seeing and just wanted to clarify that. Since I already have the exhaust manifolds off it will not be hard to do the rest and get at it. Since I am already this far into the job I will probably go after that as well I don't see any reason to tear it apart twice to do what I should have done when I was that close in the first place.
