Wink Just wonderin'

had my 08 RKC for almost 2 years- about 12,000 miles or so--- love it--- thinking about upgrading to an Ultra in '10-- problem is, I'm not an old geezer like most of the guys riding Ultras---

Oh sure, I'm AS OLD and probably OLDER than most of 'em, but in my little brain, I am still, uh, well, younger...

Mom and I like to ride long trips... 500 + mile days are OK with us, where the Ultra will shine, but when we get where we are going, we usually hook up with friends who are on bar hoppers---

Anyway to temporarily de-geezer the Ultra while in town?

Quick release on the tour-pak (leave it in the hotel room); toss a 6" windscreen in your suitcase (three screws to swap it out). Changes the appearance pretty quickly.

I'm 39 and you'll have to pry my Geezer Glide from my cold dead fingers.

By the way...Most real old riders I see are on Road Kings.

You're "not an old geezer like most of the guys riding Ultras"? C'mon, I'm 58 years young and not quite in the grave yet. It's amazing I can even ride. There have been several threads on this topic lately, and it's getting a little old itself.

Add an aftermarket fairing fairing and a detachable Tour Pak to the Road King. That's what I did with my '08 Road King. I even added fairing lowers. It's all detachable, so I can have it set up like a Road King, Street Glide, or Electra Glide.

Dont forget to remove the front lowers as well when cruising around town!
Just remember that all the items removed take a bit of time to put back on!! Aint no quick release pieces! (most of them anyways)

What he said. Keep the King and add the gear.

On my FLHR I've recently replaced my front fender with a clean Street Glide fender, and got rid of the rear bumper, rear crash bars and NWS tires. With my detachable fairing on the bike, my buddies call it a "Street King". Fits in nicely with the hoppers. Much less "geezerly"! But still a great tourer.

Its realy like three bikes in one. There, my $0.02.

2 up on a SG isn't that comfy, I would say keep the King but the 09 frame is better, buy a new King, get a detatchable farring, tour pack, and backrest when you remove it it's hopper.. it'll be an Ultra King... Or just do the detach on an 09 Ultra...
